Re: Giving up on 1/72 armour

I have about 40 of the Dragon tanks, and about 40 of the CDC tanks(metal!). The CDC PZIVs are extremely nice, and very detailed. I do have 4 Corgi tanks - very well made. I paid ca. $40.00 for each. Budget and space, and quality, keep me with 1/72

Re: Giving up on 1/72 armour

I have 30 pieces of Dragon Armor and I prefer them for the 1/72 scale. They fit well with my Century Wings/Corgi/Dragon Warbirds 1/72 aircraft.

Talking Re: Giving up on 1/72 armour

I started collecting Dragon Armour last year. I have 16 tanks with 6 more enroute including a Hornisse and Hummel. So Cardinal my friend, if you need any help to lighten your load, pm me.

Re: Giving up on 1/72 armour

Hey Cardo, how are you going with that scale crisis of yours?

I have the same problem in that I like all my models to be the same scale if possible. And this is one of the reasons I chose 1/72 over 1/48 aircraft and 1/50 tanks. The 1/72 stuff just seems to look better, I admit the Dragons etc don't have the same heft but I look more often than I touch so it doesn't worry me that much.

One advantage I have is that I'm short sighted so when I take my glasses off I can see the little guys close up in perfect clarity. Whereas people my age with normal vision need reading glasses or have to view 1/72 models at arms length or further.

I also like to get as many WWII models as I can and 1/50 scale seems just to limited. For example I don't ever think anyone will make a Hummel in 1/50. Of course you could do what I do and have my main collection in 1/72, with a special play shelf set aside for my 1/50 Corgi tanks etc.

Re: Giving up on 1/72 armour

Here is what I have decided concerning "scales." This works for me, personally.

I do some dioramas, so, I use 1/144 scale armor for this. This scale allows me to show a fairly large scene without taking up too much space. I have done a winter scene through a forest, and a burned-out building scene, with two Tiger Is about to face two Shermans(wonder who will win that one?)

My 1/32(1/35) collection is reserved for 1 of each major player, WWII. 1 Sherman, 1 Tiger, 1 King Tiger, 1 PZIV, 1 T-34, etc. I do not buy any re-paints in this scale. I like the 1/32 because this scale is a wonderful visual of the competing tanks. These are kept in my office.

The remaining purchases(probably 90% of the overall collection), are all 1/72. Great detail, good price, space is easy to find. Like I mentioned earlier, I do have some Corgis, and Solido/Verem armor, but these were purchased 10 years ago. Anyway, just my two cents.

Yes, I started with the Dragon Armour as well last year. Went from 0 to over 100 in a year!
Kinda like a ole Pacer, except that went only up to 60mph in a year.

Was that BEFORE or AFTER the arrest?

Re: Giving up on 1/72 armour

I went the other way.

Started out collecting 1/6 action figures (I'm Navy, so I started with the Hasbro dungaree sailor way back in 1999 or so), then I scaled down to 1/18 as I ran out of space.

Now, I'm down to 1/72 because of space limitations. Since I like modern stuff more than WWII, I can't see going down to 1/144, and I can't see going back up to 1/48.
