Re: Best Dragon Ever !

Here are pics of the two Hornisse which Dirty Ace has confirmed as being the only two versions of the Hornisse which were issued. Hmmmmm. This must make the model THE rarest type of vehicle which Dragon have ever released. There are more Mouses ! There are more Sturmtigers ! Oh, wait, how many versions of the E100 have come out ? I have only one ( how many do you need ? ). So, perhaps the E100 takes the plaudits as the rarest ?

Well, anyway, thanks again to LegioLXXll for posting these pics on his diecast 1.72 site, which has become THE definitive site for finding out what is available in 1.72.....all the Dragons are there !

By the way, the rests for the MGs which you can see on the sides of the fighting box are not replicated on the models issued by Dragon. I guess these pics are of a version of the assembled model before production copies were issued.

Re: Best Dragon Ever !

I just looked at my Hornisse 60060. It does not have the "handles" toward the back of the vehicle that are in the picture. What gives?

We had a short debate on this subject ( with lots of speculation ) when Dragon first issued the model, because the publicity shots of the Hornisse had the handles/rests on show. Wer weren't sure what they are, but the most likely answer which was posted was that they are MG rests. These details were included with the Hornisse in KIT form, but the detail was left out of the specifications for the pre-built version, as issued by Dragon.

Don't worry, no-one has these details included in their Hornisse, as issued.

cheers,

MoMo

Re: Best Dragon Ever !

60060 still looks great without, and I'm looking forward to receiving it in the mail.

Re: Best Dragon Ever !

I really like the 251 half tracks besides the Nashorn/Hornisse/Hummel's.

Re: Best Dragon Ever !

The gun handles would have been a very nice touch. I wish Dragon would have produced the Hornisse like they pictured it. O well. Thanks for the drawings. I didn't know what the "handles" were.

Re: Best Dragon Ever !

I never found any photos of the gun handles. I am guessing that they were stored away so the crew had more room to perform their main function. This was supposed to be a long range tank killer and with it's thin skin and open top was never meant to come in range of enemy infantry. If the crew ever had to use the machine gun then they were in deep trouble.

Re: Best Dragon Ever !

After reading the chapter on Albert Ernst in Panzer Aces, he never once mentions using the MG42 on the Hornisse, even though they do experience some combat with the Soviet infantry. I believe he just mentions using some grenades and MP40s.

Re: Best Dragon Ever !

Thanks for the technical drawings of the Hornisse, wmosner. They have clarified this matter, graphically, for everyone !

cheers,
