Re: Today's Dragons in the U.K.

Hornisse : note the arms which stick out either side of the fighting compartment! What are they?

Could they be cradles to stick machine guns on, similar to what's on the rear of their halftracks?

Re: Today's Dragons in the U.K.

Wasn’t the Hornisse the tank destroyer version with a high velocity 88mm, whilst the Nashorn was armed with a 150mm artillery piece????

Or have I got them around the wrong way.

Mr Aircrafty may be on the knocker with his theory about the arms; they do look like MG mounts!!

Cheers CKS1.

You must be thinking of the Hummel (for the 150mm artillery).

Re: Today's Dragons in the U.K.

I believe the Nashorn is an improved version of the Hornisse. They look pretty much the same externally but internally there were some changes, like extra armor added for the driver compartment (I think). Ofcourse you can't really see that from the model. The tank was also renamed to "Nashorn" upon Hitler's request. Please do correct me if I'm wrong though.

Probably they are. I would like to point out that they are not included with the pre-built version of this Dragon ( they are probably included with the kit version ).

Re: Today's Dragons in the U.K.

Meanwhile, I am hunting for one of these :

As I've written before, I like the way in which the winter camo contrasts with the interior of the fighting compartment, making all the detail of the interior jump out!

Re: Today's Dragons in the U.K.

Well,

I had to go through to Edinburgh today to view auction lots and decided, of course, to spend a little time at Woderland Hobby Shop to see if any of the new Dragons had flown in.

No luck!

Still a few of the Maus-variants, a few Sherman 76s and French Sherman 75, but no Polish Sherman and none of the newer 251s. I asked the bloke serving if anything new had appeared and I had missed it, but he assured me that they were still waiting patiently for new stuff to appear.

I had to buy something, so I broke my vow concerning no more Stugs and copped the last one of these:

DR60115 StuG IV "#122" (Mid Production), Italy 1944.

I didn't have one, and I liked the camo scheme, so I bit!

I'm still looking for some of the newer stuff. I'll keep you posted on what turns up in the shops.

Re: Today's Dragons in the U.K.

Still no new stuff to report except for a new version of the Humvee ( which I hate! ).

Hopefully by next week there will be new toys for me and you!
