Re: Today's Dragons in the U.K.

Nothing new has washed up on these shores this week !

( I did find an FOV German Cavalry set which stood upright, and had no bent weapons, so I bought that. Also, Academy models have released their kit of the M3 halftrack, the quarter ton amphibious vehicle--a sort of swimming jeep--and also a motorcycle ; quite a nice set which I should get round to building in 2009 ! )

Happy Hunting !

Re: Today's Dragons in the U.K.

Now here's something strange. Toybox have posted that a second Tulip from the Coldstreams is due in October ! Check it out ! It seems to carry the bunker-bursting projectiles, and appears to have a number which is not the same as the other Coldstream Tulip ???

I'll post a pic of the previously announced Tulip under it. What'd'ya think ?

DR60308 BRITISH SHERMAN MK.V 'TULIP' 1st ARMOURED BATT COLDSTREAM GUARDS GERMANY 1945
due in October, at £9.99.

DR60307 BRITISH SHERMAN MK.V 'TULIP' 1st ARMOURED BATTALION COLDSTREAM GUARDS GERMANY 1945, also due in October, but priced at £10.99 ! Strange !!!!!!!

Happy Hunting !

Re: Today's Dragons in the U.K.

And my thread about it (actually posted at the very same minute as A3driver's) didn't have the pretty pictures right in the post... C'mon MoMo, there's new British Shermans to talk about, Sherman Mk.III 3rd County of London Yeomanry, Sicily July 1943.

Here's one of the new British tanks, though I've heard the paint scheme isn't entirely accurate...

Re: Today's Dragons in the U.K.

Here's one of the new British tanks, though I've heard the paint scheme isn't entirely accurate...

British Shermans in 1943 were painted according to an official disruptive pattern, which is not matched by any of the upcoming Sherman IIIs. While field variations did exist, most photos of Wiltshire Yeomanry (Syria) and London Yeomanry (Sicily) Shermans show the standard pattern.

Regarding colours, the London Yeomanry vehicle shoud be painted "Light Mud" with the disruptive pattern in "Blue Black"; Light Mud was a beige-grey colour not far from good old Humbrol "Khaki Drill", and would definitely look darker, "greener", and greyer when compared to Dragon's illustration. The colours used on the Wiltshire Yeomanry tank are controversial - some sources suggest blue-black on light mud, as for the previous vehicle, while other references indicate "Light Stone" (sand) as the base colour with a disruptive pattern of either "Terracotta" or "Slate". Other members in the forum can perhaps shed some more light on this topic...?

Re: Today's Dragons in the U.K.

Thanks, Guys, for keeping me up to speed. I tend to keep track of the ' toybox ' site to see which Dragons will be arriving in the U.K. and when we should expect them to appear.

The London Yeomanry Sherman does look a little light to me, but we'll have to see if it's a bit darker without the flash photography.

Soon, there will be more Shermans than ' captured ' T34s !

Re: Today's Dragons in the U.K.

This one has been posted by Dragon USA as slated to arrive in the States in November. I wonder when we'll see it here. It looks like a generic one ( no regimental number ) so it should prove to be a popular one with the wargammers!

I don't think that I could pass on this one.

Model number : DRR 60304 ; 1/72 StuG.III Ausf.G Early Production, Pz.Gren.Div. 'Großdeutschland' Eastern Front 1943

Of all the Wehrmacht’s combat units, the Panzergrenadier-Division Großdeutschland was the premier one. Its name literally means “Greater Germany Division”, and it served exclusively on the Eastern Front before being annihilated near Pillau in May 1945. Its first real test as a division was in the drive towards Stalingrad in 1942, while at the start of 1943 it participated in the Third Battle of Kharkov. In mid-1943, Großdeutschland played an important role in the Battle of Kursk, the largest tank battle of all time.

Dragon Armor has issued a fine 1/72 scale model of an armored vehicle from the Großdeutschland Division fighting in 1943. The model portrays a StuG.III Ausf.G Early Production variant from the division’s Sturmgeschütz (Assault Gun) Battalion. This particular battalion was composed of an HQ and three batteries containing six StuG.III assault guns each. As is the norm for Dragon Armor items, the model is extremely accurate dimensionally, and even the smallest detail is fully represented. It is painted in a summer camouflage scheme of sand covered in wavy green lines. The balkenkreuze is clearly emblazoned on the superstructure sides, as well as the division’s famous “helmet” insignia. The finish is topped off by judicious dry-brushing, resulting in an extremely attractive and realistic-looking vehicle. This is a fine StuG.III Ausf.G model from the division that was nicknamed “die Feuerwehr” (The Fire Brigade), and it is sure to spark a lot of interest amongst collectors!

happy hunting,

MoMo

Re: Today's Dragons in the U.K.

I wonder if we'll see the StuGs that we caught a glimpse of...yikes...maybe a couple years ago already? Vehicles like Dragon Armor 1/72 SDKFZ 142 StuG III Western Front 1944 (60089) and Dragon Armor 1/72 SDKFZ 142 StuG 42 with 10.5cm Gun (60090), or have those gone the way of the early production zimmerit-coated Jagdpanthers? (60037 and 60038...Which I wanted, btw, Mr. Dragon! Hate to say it Jagdpanzer fans, but it looks like 60261 and 60262 are following in their footsteps with a perpetual two month delay.)

That "Western Front" StuG III had a sexy ambush camouflage...Hope it see's the light of day.

It seems that Old Europe was lucky as I got my 60261 in February. It was advertised as a limited edition ("only 100 pieces delivered to Germany"), but is still listed as in stock. You are right with 60262 though - the same dealer had it in his catalogue for a short time, but it never arrived.
