Re: Today's Dragons in the U.K.

Hi guys,

Two models which Ill look forward to adding to the collection will be these which are due to arrive in the U.K. in October, according to toybox. I know that it is early days to start thinking about October, but today the weather feels like it!

I know that you're all sick of seeing yet another version of the Jagdtiger, but this one is highly specialist and will give you a companion for your Bergtiger. With a few figures you can animate this Jagdtiger, and give it a bit of life. The A-Frame hoist with block and tackle look good.
The first of the SU 100s looks good too. I suspect that, as with the rest of the Russion variations of the T34, it will appear in a variety of outfits for spring, winter and summer ( autumn too! ) I think that I may end up with a few!

GERMAN Sd.Kfz.186 JAGDTIGER HENSCHEL VERSION WITH CRANE GERMANY 1945
model number : DR60267

SOVIET SU-100 1st GUARDS MECHANIZED CORPS, HUNGARY 1945
model number : DR60305

cheers,

MoMo

Re: Today's Dragons in the U.K.

Yes momo it is the same one, love that russian tank and the jadtiger. Have you seen any pics of these? I have never seen one with a crane on it and I have many concord books of german armour. Wonder if we will see some KV russian tanks any time soon as well?? Oh yes, by the way momo do you have any of the mrc armour that is out now? Some of it is not bad looking and they have a far lot of shermans to offer as well

Re: Today's Dragons in the U.K.

Sorry to nitpick again, but I won't buy this Jagdtiger because of the following:

1) The zimmerit is again a shoddy job, as it has led to the deletion of supports, tools, hangers, etc. on the hull, giving the beast a "damsel" look with those clean, empty sides.

2) The running gear is clearly of the Henschel type, so this Jagdtiger should have NO zimmerit in the first place!!!

So-called "pilzen" sockets to receive a portable jib crane were mounted on the roof of Jagdtigers starting February 1945. The crane was intended to aid in repairs while in the field.

The Su-100 looks pretty accurate, though. I will definitely buy it!

Re: Today's Dragons in the U.K.

Dear tank nut, by MRC, do you mean " Easy Model"?

Hang loose, chascbv. You can't have everything perfect. It's easy enough to adapt some of these inaccuracies with a few spare bits of track, some " steel " enamel paint and a tube of plastic cement.

That way you create a unique piece, and you get exactly what you want.

The modle companies can only afford to spend about $ 100 on the research of each model. That buys about two hours of an experts time. They'll never get everything correct because they research conflicting material which often has to be translated and also sketched. We all know what can get lost in translation.....

Hang in there.

Re: Today's Dragons in the U.K.

It's wrong, I notice it's wrong, I share it's wrong; it's right, I notice it's right, I share it's right... That's my notion of hanging loose!

You're right MoMo, some spare track links, a little stretched sprue, etc. will do the trick (well, that will not delete the erroneous coat of zimmerit paste... will it?), but first you have to know what needs correction or amelioration! That's the way I approach my two cents' contribution to our hobby.

On the other hand, what will gently push manufacturers into delivering better models other than finely tuned market laws? When good things sell and poor products don't, then there is a drive towards better quality, isn't it?

Regarding the scant budget manufacturers have for model research, well... Couldn't contributions by members in a forum of this sort provide a little more intel for free? Our reviews and contributions might also help manufacturers, don't you think?

Imagine we all want to have a series of models devoted to tank aces, and of course we want to have "In the mood", the M4A1(76)W used by Staff Sgt. Lafayette Pool, US Army, one of the best tank commanders in WW2. Members could provide data on this subject, pictures, illustrations, text paragraphs, etc. found in their books or the net, and all that info would be available, say, to Dragon and HM, who already manufacture beautiful, high-quality Sherman models (1/72 and 1/48, respectively). Wouldn't that work?

Wouldn't such an approach lead to better MODELS, rather than merely good-looking toys?

Thanks for your kind attention.

Dear chas cbv,

I think that your idea is very well-founded. The problem is, how do we know if the manufacturers ( apart from ADMIRAL ) take any notice of our views?

Still, I think that it would stimulate a lot of discussion among members if they wished to see a particular vehicle brought into production.

OK, GUYS,

Running with chascbv's idea, which vehicles would you go for?

Dragon 61012 1/35 German 60cm Morser Loki Self Propelled Siege Mortar

This Dragon 61012 1/35 German 60cm Morser Loki Self Propelled Siege Mortar is an exact diecast model replica of the real thing.
There has been a very strong response from collectors to Dragon’s series of fully built-up 1/35 scale models and the latest addition is a replica of the original Karl mortar system. In this case, bigger is better!
Collectors will not fail to be impressed by the sheer size of this item, which appears in a standard German grey camouflage paint scheme.
One prototype and six production versions of these 124 ton weapons were delivered between November 1940 & August 1941. The giant vehicle is fully detailed with all the intricate components of the suspension, chassis, superstructure and mortar. The vehicle is shown in transport mode, where the suspension has been set to it's higher position. For even greater interest, the huge mortar barrel can be elevated and depressed. Moreover, a true scale of ammo is included as a bonus.
This monster of a model has been well painted and weathered and it is ready for immediate display. The original vehicles were able to hurl 2.17-ton projectiles and saw combat at Lemberg & Sevastopol on the Eastern Front.

Manufacturer: Dragon
Model: 61012 German 60cm Morser Loki Self Propelled Siege Mortar
Scale: 1/35

Yes, I know that it's big! One of the hobby shops which I visit in Edinburgh has just posted that they are taking advanced orders for this at a " discount " price of £53.99, which is probably twice the price which it will be in the USA!!!

Expected to arrive on the 1st of October, 2007.

You must not read the other theads on this board, LOL. The thread right below this one (titled "Hollyyyyy Mollyyyy !!!!!!") is about this and was reported to retail for $120 but will be on sale for $99.99, so that price in British Pounds you listed isn't that bad.
