| Re: Who would be interested in undecaled models? I am in favor of this as long as they don't discontinue pad-printed graphics as well; as long as I have the option of buying either type, I'm okay.
When I built plastic models, I spent lot time and money trying to figure out how to make decals look good. The problem is that decals only look good when they are on a perfectly smooth surface. Most aircraft and armor paint jobs are flat, and if you were to look at flat paint microscopically, you would see that it has a flat finish because it is extremely uneven (topographically). In order to make the decals set properly, I had to paint the model, give it a coat of gloss, apply the decals, wait for them to set, then apply a coat of flat.
One of the reasons that I collect diecast rather than plastic models is that I don't have the time. Customer applied decals would take time that I don't have. |
