Re: Dragon's Sd.Kfz."51/2 Ausf.C Rivetted version, mit Grenatwerfer.

I lived in Waterloo, Iowa for 3 years as a child. Don't remember too much about it other than my mother hated it so much that my father switched job positions and we moved back to Ohio where we had started from.

I used to live in Nebraska, and folks in Nebraska say that I-O-W-A on a car's license plate stands for "Idiot Out Wandering Around"...... That's what they say...

Ha! I know, heard that all the time growing up. We always came back with "Why do all the trees here lean west? Cause Nebraska s**ks!" Oops, sorry thread highjacking in progress...time to punch out.

Posting a shot of the riveted one.

By the way, Easy8, I did have a connection with Iowa State University. My ex-wife, who originally came from back east ( New Haven ) worked in the hospital there. She's a nice lady who is an angel of the ward but she pined for Iowa and Graham crackers and I love Scotland and haggis......

cheers, MoMo

Adding,

now happily married to another lady who is just as much of an angel but keeps repeating, " What the ---- is in those bags?" every time I get back from the city centre!

Must find more shelf space......

Re: Dragon's Sd.Kfz."251/2 Ausf.C Rivetted version, mit

Hi Guys,

Updating this thread : as we can see, this new release from Dragon looks brilliant, but missed the boat as far as having dedicated figures, tied to the model. This is the one which cries out for a set of crew figures. Six would have been excellent, but even four would have done the job of helping to bring the vehicle to life.

Modellers who buy this type will be crewing it with the Pegasus Mortar team or Armourfast's Mortar team.

In their blurb, Dragon state that the model has a metal chassis. In the kit version, there is no metal chassis. Could they have made a mistake and been referring to the photo-etched brass metal panels which adhere to the hull sides to create the rivited body?

Good news is that they have used the photo-etched set to detail the interior of the model. This set of parts is very fine, and using them on such a small model adds a wealth of detail. If the production model is as good as the illustration, and the detailing is carried out skillfully, then this should take Dragon's new release to a new level.

I'm building one right now, and all the photo-etched parts are a handful to deal with.
If Dragon's build is as good as the kit deserves, I'm ordering six!

1/72 Sd.Kfz.251/2 Ausf.C Rivetted Version, Eastern Front 1942

About the Sd. Kfz. 251
The Sd.Kfz. 251 was produced in a number of hull types, especially as the war wore on and production had to be simplified. This attractive and sleek German half-track was also employed in a plethora of roles, including that of a mortar carrier. This version, known as the Sd.Kfz. 251/2, provided a mobile platform for the 8cm GrW34 medium mortar.

We are going to release a 1/72 scale model of one such vehicle, presented as an Ausf.C vehicle with a riveted hull. All detail including the 8cm Grenatwerfer 34 mortar and the rivets on hull have been wonderfully replicated true to scale. It is the first one of this particular variant in Dragon Armor range, and it features a metal chassis for added durability and the ammo rack inside is also represented from photo-etched parts. It features such a vehicle that saw combat in the Eastern Front in 1942, painted in a typical dark yellow with realistic weathering effect.

Main Features:
- Open window display packaging
- Highly popular and collectible item
- True to 1/72 scale
- Fully acurrate mold
- Fully assembled
- Historically accurate markings and insignia
- Includes protective display case

Re: Dragon's Sd.Kfz."251/2 Ausf.C Rivetted version, mit

I won't be using Pegasus or Armourfast mortar teams, I don't think very highly of either of them. I'll be using AB Figures miniatures for this halftrack. Made of metal and some of the most realistic poses in this scale.

I think they say metal chassis just like they say these are diecast. There may be just a bit of it, but it's going to be mostly plastic like all the others. We'll have to wait until they're out to know for sure, but most modelers don't like metal bodies for their kits and the kits are what the Dragon Armor is based on.

It looks quite nice.

Re: Dragon's Sd.Kfz."51/2 Ausf.C Rivetted version, mit

Dear LegioLXXll,

I can understand your preference for metal figures to populate the range of 251s, but I have to put in a good word for Pegasus and Armourfast. For plastic figures these are very good. Also, they're cheap.

The Pegasus Mortar team gives you a great choice of figures and the choice of mounting two different mortars. Also, the Pegasus figures are harder plastic than the two Waffen SS sets, making them easier to paint and glue.
Another advantage you gain with this set is that the figures come unbased, making them easier to fit/glue to the 251s. These two sets, together with the Preisser sets take care of the task of making the 251s come to life.

I prefer metal figures for painting and detail, but the available plastic figure sets allow you to experiment, and also allow the luxury of selecting only the figures you want, if you are pushed for time.
