| Re: Something new (Canadian) for the Leopard 2A6 Mould The first Canadian Leopard 2A6M was delivered into Afghanistan on Aug 16th using a chartered Antonov 124. The first Canadian C-17 mission to Afghanistan will take place at the end of the month. Notice the Canadian Maple leaf marking on the Turret. Dan | ||||||||||||||

| Re: Something new (Canadian) for the Leopard 2A6 Mould
And some people complain about the look of Minichamps armor (beeing "too clean" and such)! On another note, I can't believe the Canadians are putting slat armor on a composite('chobbam")-armor protected tank! The slat armor makes sense on a Stryker or other light-armor vehicle, but on a Leopard 2? Maybe at the rear to protect the engine compartment, but all over the sides seems just ridiculous to me. The basic armor is easily capable of defeating RPG-type warheads, and that's the only thing the slat armor is good for in the first place. Or maybe the Leopard 2's armor isn't nearly as thick as the M-1A1/2 (which I doubt is the case on the A6 model, or at least not by much). Really weird. Anybody know what they are thinking? | Re: Something new (Canadian) for the Leopard 2A6 Mould RPG hits could do some serious damage to the paint job. ![]() Humor aside, I really wouldn't know either as to why slat armor would be installed on them. It would make more sense to install reactive armor similar to the Abrams TUSK to counter RPGs.

| Re: Something new (Canadian) for the Leopard 2A6 Mould
The latest news shows that Even the Abrams TUSK uses Slat Armour for protection at the rear. Looks like the Canadians were out on the leading edge when it came to upgrading tanks to be protected in urban combat zones! TUSK stands for “Tank Urban Survival Kit,” and represents the American approach to the problem of employing tanks in urban situations where weapons elevation, protection placement, and other design elements aren’t designed to cope with key threats.
