New Dragon 1:35 Scale Tank

The following was posted on the Small Scale Forum:

The latest issue of Lee's Toy Review(Millenium Falcon on the cover) has a full page ad from Dragon touting the latest addition to their 1/35 scale DieCast lineup. It is numbered 61004 and it is an Elefant from 1/sPzAbt 653-probably Kursk. So far no mention of it online at their website.

I was hoping for something new but it'll probably be March before this one shows up. Although they did get the first one over here pretty quick.

Elefant from 1/sPzAbt 653-probably Kursk.

Thanks for the info, but who we'll buy one for $65US plus shipping!? Even for Dragon, this is quite an unimaginative choice. Do they really think that 1:35 Maus, E-100, and how can we forget Jagdtiger and Sturmtiger will be hot sellers in large scale?

Regards,

Sergey

I don't like their choice either, actually surprised they didn't trot out a bunch of Wittman tanks...with grass, plaques, etc.
A Sherman would have been nice or a Nashorn.

Re: New Dragon 1:35 Scale Tank

There are lots of new fans, fans coming from the ranks of WWII gamers, who have played games like the Brothers in Arm series, Company of Heroes, Call of Duty, and Medal of Honor. People want to purchase tanks an armor which is familar. These are STuGs, Panzers, Shermans, Tigers, Panthers, etc. Making the strange and unique is nice, but the core should be what makes for better marketing.

Once Dragon see how their new Sherman collection takes off, maybe they will see the light.

I wonder if they'll do a 'special version' with the Gunlock up or down & hope people will buy one of each ..

No wonder, it's an Elefant! We've had dozens of them in 1:72, so in 1:35 it's twice as boring!
I wonder what's the fascination in these vehicles. I really think they should make Panthers in this scale, they would sell much better.

Re: New Dragon 1:35 Scale Tank

I stood on top of a elephant and it's pretty cool. Parked my mini van right next to one and it dwarfed it. During Kursk the Russians couldn't penetrate their armor so they would let them through the lines and roast the crews later. Very slow but excellent for long range fighting. I'll get one.

That's pretty much what they were good for. With so many breakdowns mechanically they were pretty much stationary anti-tank weapons. I've read a story somewhere about one of these monsters holding up an entire Soviet battalion during Kursk. The Soviets had to blast these suckers with large caliber guns from the sides or the back to take them out.

Re: New Dragon 1:35 Scale Tank

I only have 4 1/35 (1/32) scale tanks, mainly sticking with 1/72, but I do like this one and will consider getting it. Anyone seen a price and place to pre-order?
