| Thoughts on Dragon P47s, P51s, and Spitfires A quick 2 questions, how are Dragon's P47s, P51s, and Spitfires? What are decent prices on these? I ask because a: I have never owned any Dragon models and b: I have found a few on Ebay and the seller is located within 15 minutes from me so I can just pick them up and not pay shipping. Thanks. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Thoughts on Dragon P47s, P51s, and Spitfires Dragons P-51s and P-47s are excellent. I have 2 each. The Mk V Spitfires are good, but the wings are a little thick at the root. I have three Spits. Some of the fiddly bits are a challenge, but I really like the models overall. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Thoughts on Dragon P47s, P51s, and Spitfires You can see pics of mine with some thoughts here: Photo Album The Jugs and Mustangs are first-rate in 1:72... for the Spit I prefer Gemini's most recent releases. The prices vary depending on the model but I'd guess anywhere from $12-30 could be fair, again depending on the livery and rarity of same. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Thoughts on Dragon P47s, P51s, and Spitfires The P-47s and P-51s are the best in 1/72. The only real complaint from collectors are the "fiddly bits" much like Hobbymasters stuff. | |||||||||||||

| I've got 9 of the P-51's and 12 of the P-47's. If Dragon had made more I would have bought them also. If you want any, get the ones with the nice base diorama's. Dragon re-issued many of their earlier models (no bases) under new item numbers (with bases). The same identical models, just with new numbers and the bases included. Really frosted me, when I had spent all that money buying the early ones. Dragon did the sdame thing with some of their armor models. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Thoughts on Dragon P47s, P51s, and Spitfires Until recently I had quite a collection of their Mustangs and couldn't be happier with them. The Thunderbolts have been hit and miss, but overall I really like them. The Spits have left me lukewarm for some reason (and I really like Spitfires). Perhaps, as Pappy noted, the Gemini Aces are much nicer and can be had at about the same price range. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Thoughts on Dragon P47s, P51s, and Spitfires In my opinion, Dragon makes the best 1:72 P51D (GA has a different version) on the market. At one time, I owned only 1 P51 (Corgi) and that was enough! I was not a fan and hated the "gappy" mould that Corgi used. One day, a forum member talked me into trying out a Dragon P51. Now 8 P51 later ( 4 Dragons and 4 GA) I truly love the plane/model. As for the P47 I like them ok. The mould/model is great however, I am not a fan of the plane. I can't comment on the Spitfires. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Thoughts on Dragon P47s, P51s, and Spitfires The Dragon P51s are the best on the market, trhe P47s are also in my opinion the best, as others have said the Spitfires are Ok but Gemini seem to have the best rendition of those at the moment. This side of the pond Dragon P51s seem to be as rare as hens teeth at the moment. $30 to $40 is about the right price over here but often they sell for more. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Thoughts on Dragon P47s, P51s, and Spitfires Dragon make some excellent looking models, especially their P47s and FW190s. That said, I won't be buying any more as it's virtually impossible to ever 'rotate' them (i.e. rebox) in your collection due to the excessive number of fiddly bits that have to be affixed using glue. No matter how careful you try to be there always seem to be bits 'n pieces falling off or breaking - enough is enough ... | |||||||||||||
