Cool 1/72 Dragon 262

Although I've got the 262 Night Fighter on pre-order I had the opportunity to view the two-seater "Red 35" trainer today and must say that it is a really fine piece of die-cast that seems to be extremely well made unlike my Schoppler "Yellow 5" Corgi which was pretty much a QC disaster (I love the FM Galland though).

Any thoughts in general on Dragon 262s ...?

Sorry can't comment yet Cardinal. I also have the night-fighter on pre-order. What's wrong with your Yellow 5? Mine seems fine although its still in the box.

Yellow 5 is a great looking 262, but mine was let down by some quality control issues such as paint scuffing; loose front turbine cowling on one of the engines; paint error on other engine; rear tail stabiliser that fell off for lack of sufficient glue and worst of all excess glue 'run' throughout the detail sections beneath the other tailplane and on the fuselage . Looks okay from a distance though but definitely not one of the best purchases I ever made .

Re: 1/72 Dragon 262

I really liked my yellow 5 but it does have a couple paint flaws and I had to resort to gluing the gear to it because they didn't fit in at all. That's the only plane I've really been disapointed in from corgi But that's only one Corgi I've had to do anything compared to the 4 Dragons that I've had to sand or glue to make the parts fit

Re: 1/72 Dragon 262

I actually like the Dragon 262s better than Corgi's. I think the paint jobs are better, and more realistic -- just look at how bright and garish the Bar 262 is in comparision to Dragon's (I also prefer the shape of Dragon's canopy and interior cockpit detail, and the way the canopy is fitted -- corgi's looks slapped on there with the visible seams)

The Dragon 262s just look better to me, despite the weakly modelled gun recesses and the engine size debates. The thing that really bugs me about them is the lack of the radial antenna behind the cockpit.

I've got a few of the dragon 262s up on my site with a comparison of the legends Galland and Dragon Bar models (done before Dragon had the Galland and before TFM's AA Galland came out).

http://www.diecastace.com/comparison_262s.html

They're real close in terms of quality IMHO, and score the same to me (note the scores would fall in Dragon's favor slightly now, as the Legend got a half point just for its price). I just prefer the look of Dragon's, for the paint and cockpit reasons noted above.

Re: 1/72 Dragon 262

Hey folks,
I'm with the Dragon folks on this one. I just think their mould, for all it's flaws, is sharper.

Maybe, one day, someone really sharp and on the ball like Hobby Master will make a 262 and we'll go through this exercise one more time.......

Thumbs up Re: 1/72 Dragon 262

Yes the Dragon is certainly the choice here. As w/ the P-51's the optional position features alone make it the winner. I really like the open canopy option, and am thankful for the lack of badly painted and molded little people like objects. God those things can spoil a good-looking model!

Also I REALLY like the cockpit detail on the 2 seater in particular. VERY detailed and well done!

Re: 1/72 Dragon 262

I agree with everything you said there buddy. I have the 2 seater and its superb, My only complaint is the wheels keep falling off. (dont want to glue them just in case I want to go wheels up at some time). The Corgis are good models also and if you buy them you wont be sorry. I must be lucky because I have no defects that I can see on any of the 262s including yellow 5 or the red 13. The whole range of 262s are very good imho, small off scale detail but nothing that detracts from the overal looks. But oh those horrible Corgi figures, dreadfull things. I try if possible to pull them out. Not easy! The crews in the Swordfish look good in the photos so lets hope Corgi have got the message.

Try a little Elmers white glue. It holds ok and comes off easy later.

Leigh-Mallory and his big wings! Might as well stay on the ground for all the use they are!
