New Dragon Warbird Additions

The FM thread is popular -- and I thought I was the only one buying those anymore

So I thought it would be cool to kick off the same type of thread for Dragon -- is anyone buying these anymore?

My latest additions, which I picked up from a forum member a little while ago:

50063 Me-109G-2 Special Italian version

I really like them both -- though I'm sure there are a few version errors that 109 "experten" will point out, and please do.

This is just a cool scheme.

Dragon even did a bit of weathering on this model with the exhaust stacks, which is tough to see in this picture -- I'll post more in a review on the site later.

Re: New Dragon Warbird Additions

I have the German Bf 109G but need to pick up the Italian one. It looks pretty good and will not need any additional rudder decals.

Re: New Dragon Warbird Additions

I picked up Dragon's Hans-Ulrich Rudel Ju-87G (DRW50200) a few weeks ago. My Dragon stable is now pretty complete... Unless I can find the Cyber-Hobby Roger Hedrick F4U-1A (CHC50152) on the Bay.

It's a shame that Dragon has pulled back on its diecast warbirds. Dragon models pulled me into 1:72, and I really like Dragon's design aesthetic. I was looking forward to the promised P-40, legendary P-38, more 1:144 heavies, etc. Hopefully Dragon will pick up the line again.

Ahh, well, there's always Hobby Master!

Catalog number 50243, one of two Dragon 2-seater 262s I believe.

Look Ma, no stand!

Ouch! Awwwwwwwwwww man! Can't a guy catch a break! Meet my new one-armed test pilot.

Yep, still do. The price is right for alot of DW's. For the price of 1 CW, I can get a couple or 3 DW's.......errors, warts and all!

Re: New Dragon Warbird Additions

I have plenty of Dragons in my hanger, I love em.

Great detail and not many errors.
The 2 seater 262 is just perfect, Dragon made a better job of the engines than Corgi, Corgis are a little too slender.

Dragon 262s are very good and despite the engines being a touch slim I like the Corgi models almost as much.

I always watch out for Dragon bargain and picked up a P47 this week.
I was very disappointed when Dragon failed to deliver the P40, I was really excited about that one.

Re: New Dragon Warbird Additions

Good looking two seater Me 262 addition to your collection. Picked up my first Corgi Me 262 yesterday and notice like Jim stated on previous post that the engine nacelles look a bit on the slender side. I have a couple of the Dragon 262s and think they all look pretty good.

II was very disappointed when Dragon failed to deliver the P40, I was really excited about that one.

Really, you were, Jim

It's a tomato/tomatoe thing with the engines - I recall some threads, I think on MH I, where the prevailing opinion was the opposite -- that Dragon's were too fat. See this comparison I did a while ago about that issue, for laughs if nothing else; Photo Album

Regardless, I like the panel lines and paint a bit better on Dragon's -- though corgi's gun recesses/ports or whatever you want to call 'em look better.

Re: New Dragon Warbird Additions

Someone asked for a comparison of FOV Zeros vs. Dragon Zeros on another thread a few days ago. That brought up someone posting a picture of DW Zero #50049 - 261st Flying Group, Marianas/Saipan, 1944.

THIS WAS A DRAGON ZERO I'D NEVER SEEN! BOOYA! I've been wanting a late war mulit-colored camo. and POOF! - Dragon has one. I just ordered it last night. The Witty Zeros hadn't impressed me and the one Matchbox camo. Zero looked rather scary! And none of the new EasyModel A6M5s coming out look to be camo., though I'll probably get one for an A6M5 representative.

While searching for the 50049 Dragon Zero, I figured out that the two Dragon Zeros I had were the 50010 Saburo Sakai, Rabaul, 1942 and the 50042 Truk Island, 1943. I had mistakenly thought that the green 50042 was from Pearl Harbor. Now I gotta find one of the two Dragon Pearl Harbor Zeros and order it. Thanks, guys! But it will looks sweet next to that HM "Kate" when it comes out.

I agree, both are good models and I like them, being a stubborn old Yorkshireman I still think Dragins engines are the best.

hmm, good point about the engine intakes being a touch on the small side, I shall have to dig out my Profiles Me262 and have another look see.

Edit, Ok I have pulled out a few books and had a real good look at the engines.

If i was a rivet counter then I would have to say that Corgis are too slim and Dragon too fat !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe its better not to look to closely, this hobby could drive a man crazy.

(I think I have eye strain now).
