| Dragon Zero or FOV ? I would like to add A Zero fighter to my collection. I have two in mind, DW or FOV. I kind of like FOV because you can see the engine. What is the difference in price for these brands ?? ( pics courtesy of Ken Airmodel ) | |||||||||||||

| Re: Dragon Zero or FOV ? I have the FOV Zero and a Dragon one as well. I prefer the Dragon version, but the FOV Zero is still pretty nice. | |||||||||||||
| Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes. | ||||||||||||||

| Re: Dragon Zero or FOV ? From what I just checked, the FOV Zeros will run about $20 while the Dragon Zeros run about $25-30. But Dragon is definitely better in quality. I've seen the engine opened in some of the FOV planes and it's not that spectacular. Plus, there are no wheels down option on the FOV, so it might look a bit funny to display the plane permanently in flying mode with the cowling off. You will pay a bit more for the Dragon version, but the quality is worth it! Plus you get wheels up or wheels down option. P.S. - If you can wait a bit, EasyModels is releasing 5 different A6M5 Zeros in a few months. The pre-pro. pictures look pretty good and they'll be priced about $13, I believe. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Dragon Zero or FOV ? Dragon wins hands down, much better detail, wheels up or down, and there are far more choices available with Dragon, packaging if you care is also nicer. I just recently got me a Dragon 50049 really nice looking Zero off Ebay for $19.98 plus a P-51 Dragon for $17.48 and shipping for both was under $9.00, deal o rama if you ask me. | Re: Dragon Zero or FOV ? As has been discussed on other threads, Dragon's Zeros have one major flaw, namely a large gap between the rear portion of the canopy and the fuselage. I've felt compelled to fix this using thin plastic strips, a bit of glue and some paint, but it's a pain in the arse. Aside from that, I would say that Dragon wins going away. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Dragon Zero or FOV ? The FOV has an engine, but it is not very detailed and the cowling that goes over it seems a little oversize. I like the way they did the landing gear - as a single unit, so no there is no question about gear-down angle or security. The hobby shop version gives you the gear up/down option. The prop is white, probably should be silver. The Dragon looks better and seems truer to scale. You can also open the canopy. The gap between the rear greenhouse and fuselage is so the canopy can open. If it bothers you, one option is to just display the model with canopy open. The FOV for $20 and Dragon for $25 is a good representation of the quality difference. Both are good value for their price. I have them both and also a couple of Whitty Zeros on the way. With HobbyMaster doing a Kate, I'm expanding the Pacific Carrier War part of my collection. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Dragon Zero or FOV ?
I agree wholeheartedly with Biggie: Dragon wins hands down. I lucked out and purchased all of Dragon’s Zeros way back when, and I’ve thanked myself ever since. I don’t own a FOV Zero, but I have looked at it closely on the rack; and all I can say is, Dragon rules. Not to mention the fact that given a few years, Dragon’s value will fly through the stratosphere. If they’ve dropped the Wings line (as rumored) and product dries up, somewhere down the road these little beauties will fetch sizeable bucks—if that means anything at all. Can’t say the same for FOV.

| Re: Dragon Zero or FOV ?
Gotta agree, Harry. Though I own only one Witty Zero, it's every bit as nice as my Dragon models. In fact, I was looking at mine this morning and marveling at its beauty. The only reason I didn't purchase more was that I already owned the entire Dragon line. Otherwise ...

| Re: Dragon Zero or FOV ? I have been quite a fan of the IJN and IJA... I own DW's A6M2, Witty's A6M5, Corgi's A6M3 mod 22, and Witty's mod 32. Imho, each one is currently the best representation for the considered version. RMK : Imho, the Zero is the very best model ever made by Witty (whatever the era): a masterpiece ! I would dare to write, it's to the Zero what GA's Spit IX is to the Spit... | |||||||||||||
