Dragon's new Stuka first impressions

Hey guys just wanted to give my thoughts as i just got this model today from Biggunscollectibles. It is heavy. Heavier than the Hobbymaster one. The dive brakes are not moveable as described in an earlier post as a matter of fact they come un-glued too easily. The guns have to be put on and the pitot tube and the antenna and both wheels and the prop and the tail wheel.. The antenna is very loose after putting it on wobbles freely in the canopy hole. The gunsight is clear plastic unlike HM's version. Has a relatively detailed cockpit with some instruments and stick. The clear glass thing behind the gun is not glued in and falls out whenever possible. Both landing gear are loose and may need gluing. The tail wheel is not painted and is weird looking. Dragon gave me 2 left guns instead of a left and a right one. The prop is not held on by anything and over time will slide right off the front of the plane. No tail swazi but we all knew that. No wing-tip lights like HM's. Canopy is incorrect but very very clear un-like HM's which is foggy sadly. wheels turn but barely landing gear appears fragile unlike HM's. Cannon barrel muzzle brakes seem more detailed than HM's version but the barrels have no holes??? HM's do.
Conclusion: I will never buy another Dragon Stuka again. Again too many fiddly's, loose fits, missed details. The mold is nice, markings crisp, paint is nice, canopy is clear but HM's $20 version blew it away despite HM's obvious mistakes. I have tried to give Dragon so many chances and the BBD P-51 is the only model I plan to keep. This Stuka is destined for E-bay I do not want to waste my precious swazi's on it's tail, those are reserved for more HM's.

Re: Dragon's new Stuka first impressions

WOW Louie! You just helped me decide on where to keep spending my money when it comes to Stukas! Thanks! I have the Rudel HM one and really like it and had been contemplating getting the Dragon one but I am also tired of fartin' around with there little pieces of s#@t that always need to be glued on and then when you want to put it away you have to screw around with getting the parts off, pain in the AZZ!

Re: Dragon's new Stuka first impressions

Thanks for the update/review Louie! Your reviews are always so detailed and accurate. I have a HM Stuka (the experimental unit) and my canopy isn't foggy so that pretty much eliminates the only drawback on your list. Dragon is losing ground extremely fast in my collection. If they were worth anything, I'd sell them off as soon as better models showed up. I'll keep my HM Stuka and skip this one.

Glad I could be of help. I love planes like all of you but I expect better as time goes by and Dragon is not listening.

Unhappy Re: Dragon's new Stuka first impressions

Oh dear! The dear could be read as any 4 letter word of your choice.

Thanks for a great review Louie. I have a Rudel on pre-order. Would you suggest I cancel or is there a slim chance the problems will be addressed with the second one?

Given Dragons poor response to customer queries in my experience it sounds like their Stuka is best avoided. Are there any HM Rudels still around?

Re: Dragon's new Stuka first impressions

New HA0129 Stuka on my site. as well as HA1002 F-104 and HA105 Iraqi Mig-21. Reviews coming over the next few days. I haven't had time to go over these models thoroughly so far but HA0129 looks like the best Hobby Master Stuka so far. A quick look at the HA1002 F-104 and HA0105 Mig-21 look like they are going to be worth a second look. http://www.hobbymastercollector.com/...er-series.html
