No swastikas on Dragon german aircrafts ?

Hi

I just learned that Dragon does not place swastikas on their German planes. Are they afraid to turn people off or to be sued?
I find ridiculous that an historical item could not be rendered as it was originally but that's me.
I am a modeler and I could get the swastikas and apply them to the models probably but then they won't be mint anymore in my book.
Ho well Corgi you got me locking on your German aircraft models.

Patrick

Yep, had to add decals to all of the ones I have (19 with 3 more on the way). Dragon does put out some nice looking Bf 109Gs, Fw 190As and Fw 190Ds, so do not mind tacking on the appropriate markings.

Re: No swastikas on Dragon german aircrafts ?

vaindioux,
The problem is that the Swaztika is illegal to display in many countries and Dragon aims at a global, wider than diecast forum hardcore types. Adding swaztikas would keep them from selling birds in many markets.

While the folks who hang out here understand that putting out a ME109 with a swazi isn't making a political statement, many others might not.

Anything for a weird life.

AeroMaster puts out both a 1/72nd and 1/48th scale assorted style/ size Swastikas. I/72nd scale is AN72184 and 1/48th is AN48545. I have been using AeroMaster decals for quite a few years, and really like their quality.

Re: No swastikas on Dragon german aircrafts ?

Hi

Would it be a big headache for Dragon to make 2 versions? 1 with and 1 without swastikas and to ship the version authorized by each countries.

Thanks for the answers.

That's why I refuse to purchase their items. They have some models that really look nice, but due to a lack of historical accuracy in the markings, I will not plunk down my money for their items. I understand that it may offend others and be illegal in some countries, couldn't they make two different versions (one with the swazi and one without)? Corgi kind of does this with their warbird series. Other than Corgi, I would recommend the Gemini Aces 109s (and hopefully other Luftwaffe planes).

Probably, but Dragon seems to be all about cost cutting. (At least that is the way I read them.) Making two versions would ensure more costly logistics and manufacturing. Their planes are cheap, (Relatively speaking) and that resonates with the masses. They lose a sale to you, but gain 1000 casual diecast/one off purchases. Dragon wins in the end.

I'm not saying I agree with Dragon's moves, but I can understand them from a business standpoint. The way I look at it is their moulds are generally good to excellent (There are some exceptions that are crap of course, but more that are great.) and I can live without a swazi. If it bothers me that much, I'll track down a sticker/decal and apply them myself.

Corgi aims for a smaller audience. That partly explains why their costs are higher, and also why they cut costs and take "the easy way out" with some of their moulds. Dragons are, for the most part, sharper and crisper than Corgi's, and cheaper, but you have the trade off of no swazis and that all their liveries are the same mould and payload, no matter what the box says.

I was looking at a Dragon 109 last night. No Swastika = no sale as far as I'm concerned.
