Re: Black Top Gun F/A-18B

FM's rendition of this plane is looking far better than the Dragon version.

But judge for yourself.

Re: Black Top Gun F/A-18B

I have to say I'd still pic the Dragon over the FM. I got rid of my FM F-18s cause I just couldn't stand looking at them any longer. That thick, clearly visible seam running down the middle of the canopy, the poorly aligned upper and lower fuselage halves and their enormous gaps, those inlet duct faces that don't match the contours of the fuselage and have huge, uneven gaps around them, the sloppy decal application, the inaccurate concave shape of the elevons, and visible screws. FM did not do the F/A-18 justice in my opinion.

Ah nice to see the Black Bunny Phantom too! I never bought it as I made 1/48th kit of it years ago and still have it on my shelf. I remember that jet very well as it eventually became ZE352 "G" on 74 Sqn here in the UK!

It's a real shame that Dragon didn't do more with that Hornet casting as it was definately one of their better ones, the USMC version dropped off the face of the planet so it seems!

Ambition is a poor excuse for not having enough sense to be lazy.

Re: Black Top Gun F/A-18B

What's up with the oversized, too-high-up, weirdly angle modex on the nose? The real thing had nice, normal numbers in the typical location.

Also---pure white Sparrows (or is that supposed to be a blunt-nosed AMRAAM?) On a parent rack? They get an F for weapons accuracy there. But they salvage a few points by not only having a Sidewinder on the tips, but actually placing it correctly (well forward).

PS---somehow I missed this thread. And I *just* cleared out all my pics where I had uploaded ones of the real thing here! *re-uploads*. Credit goes to Brian Plescia:

Do you know which BuNo belonged to the “Vandy 1” which went to the ffice:smarttags" />lace w:st="on">UKlace>? There is another “Vandy 1” F-4J stored at the AMARC bone yard at Davis-Monthan AFB in AZ.

Re: Black Top Gun F/A-18B

Nice pics of the Hornet...every pic I've seen of it has shown it without weapon racks. Glad to see yours does. Might have to start scouring to find one for myself!

I'm guessing those missiles are custom?
