Okay, I think this is a great-looking 262... did they get the paint job right? ($10 or so on ebay -- figured I couldn't go wrong...)

Had one of these come in just before Christmas, picked it up off of eBay for $8.49. Unfortunately found my current supply of Swastika decals did not have one of appropriate size, so had to place an order through Squadron for a couple of sheets. (That and I was short on decals for the two Dragon Bf 109Gs that are coming in the mail too.). Mine will stay in the box until the decals come in.

The only pic I have of a similar plane, but can't tell much...

Re: Pics: Dragon Edelweiss Me262

Although Dragon does the best job when it comes to mottling on German fighters such as the BF-109E or the FW-190A, it's not so successful when attempting squiggles as on this ME-262. While they are the right color---RLM 76---they are uniformly too thick and lack the randomly swirled look of the real thing. Corgi, had the same problem with its most recent JU-88. In addition to a color issue, its squiggles -- to my eye at least--- provide a very heavy handed "disruptive pattern" that's hard on the eyes and not very effective. That's just my humble opinion.

Nice model Pappy, & you've paid peanuts money, so congratulations.

Epz' is on target with his remarks about the RLM.76 'squiggle' pattern, known by Lufftwaffe-fans as 'Wellenmunster'

It's WAY too thick & uniformly-spaced..... almost 'comic'-like, when compared to the reality of 1945 RLM stuff !!!!!!!!!

I've highlighted Epz' main points which basically sum up what would spoil this model/paint scheme for some of us who've been into planes & studying them for some long while (& expect some degree of realism) - it sure would look 100% better without that .76 application.

But, heck, for $10 it's peanuts & if you like it (& most folks wouldn't gripe anyway) that's fine.

One of the things about colour-schemes is when you've been studying for many years, & maybe mixed with other enthusiasts (& esp' I.P.M.S. members, buying & studying paints, decals & markings) you tend to get more critical about what you'll accept (which to a degree takes some of the 'artistic-licence' fun out of it......)

I reckon the model itself looks better than Corgi's (although I've bundles of Tamiya/Hasegawa/Dragon Luftwaffe 1/48th kits & aftermarket decals - suprisingly, I DON'T collect Luftwaffe die-cast !!!!!!!!??????!!!!!!!!!)

Re: Pics: Dragon Edelweiss Me262

yeah, I think it definitely helps you enjoy this hobby a bit more (maybe enjoy isn't quite the right word) when you don't have serious model building experience -- particularly with paint application methods. Since I can't come close to doing it myself, or rather don't want to take the time to I suppose, I'm a big more forgiving with the mass-market prebuilts. This one will probably end up getting sold or traded for something else sooner rather than later -- I often get models just to photograph with no real plans to hold onto them forever.

I've got too many 262s as it is...

I definitely appreciate the input, though, fellas as it adds a lot to the reviews I will eventually post.

Re: Pics: Dragon Edelweiss Me262

how does the dragon 262 compare to its corgi counterpart? I've been thinking about making a purchase from either one, but still cant decide.I really hate the fact that I have to apply the swastika, but other than that, which is the better mold?

Thanks

I think both have their pros and cons with neither really being better, but I prefer Corgi's version...

I agree with Harry completely -- except I prefer Dragon's version.. . (I think it's the not so deeply engraved panel lines for me... )
