So what makes you choose them?

This sort of goes along with whats your favorite Dragon plane. I'm curious what makes you choose th eplanes you do? Is it a particular love for that plane, its markings, unit history, etc..
And I'll be the first to go down the list.
- P-47 "Gabreski": I wanted to round out the two Matchbox planes of his. Looking forward to the Gemini Spitfire to complete the gang.
- P-47 "Holy Joe": I liked the skull and cross bones and the yellow outlined national insignia
- P-47 "The Missouri Kid - Sho-Me": Former Eagle Sqdrn pilot and the red outlined insignia.
- P-47 "Kansas Tornado": Invasion stripes and it was a silver Razorback ETO bird.
- P-47 "Eagleston": Again the skull and cross bones insignia on the yellow cowl just looks cool.
- P-47 "Lanowski": It wasn't silver, liked the Polish insignia and light blue outline on the US insignia.
- P-47 "Five By Five" CH version: The checkered cowling got me.
- P-51 "361st FG, 375th FS, Special Blue Edition": Unique paint job.
- P-51 "361st FG, 375th FS, OD version": The blue one needed a stablemate.
- Spitfire "4th FS, Tunsia - Robert Levine" Though not a fan of tropical Spitfires the dagger in the skull markings, US flag, and yellow outlined US insignia on a Spit looked good.
- F4F "Mah Baby": I bought it out of respect for the fight the Gambier Bay put up off the Phillipine Islands.
- F6F "VF-27": I've always loved the Cat Mouth insignia, only wish Dragon would do a 3 tone version.
- F4U "USS Essex": Wanted a Corsair and couldn't pass on the price. Just wish it had bombs in place of the drop tanks.
- F4U " USS Bunker Hill": I liked the markings. Wishing Dragon would do a three tone or Black Korean War night fighter with red lettering though. And put bombs in place of the drop tanks.

Wanting:
- P-47 "Silver Lady": Its a plain Jane but looks good. And I need a second silver Razorback from the ETO.
- P-51; Its a toss up between "Lil Margret" and "The Lord Is My Shepard". I like both but only want one. Unless Dragon comes out with a nice OD overall version.
- F4F "USS Ranger": Though not a fan of the light blue overall, I do like the yellow outlined insignia. And it supported the Torch Landings.
- F6F "The Minsi III": not sure which version I'll get, but it represents a great pilot and its a Hellcat.
- F4U "VMF-214": Got to represent the "Black Sheep" if I can find one.
- Spitfire: Would like another US marked one, but in the ETO cammo, one can hope.

Well, you can write off "The Lord is My Shepherd"... It hasn't been made yet and probably won't be...

Re: So what makes you choose them?

I try to get one of each type, in markings that appeal to me. I think the only one I bought due to some significance is Yeager's P-51, since he is from West Virginia.

Re: So what makes you choose them?

For me it doesn't much matter what it is providing that there's not a million of them out there. If it's detailed, historically accurate, and limited I'll buy it. That goes for any kind of militaria.

Re: So what makes you choose them?

What causes me to buy a particular plane varies quite a bit. I tend to buy one of each type, though this "rule" is broken frequently, mostly due to the ability to get an aircraft fairly cheaply.

In two cases, I've gotten an aircraft as I wanted that particular pilot's aircraft. That would be my 1/32 "Old Crow," and my Rickenbacker Spad.

Also, I picked up the 94th Squadron P 26 Peashooter, partly because it is a neat looking aircraft, and largely because I love the paint scheme!

Re: So what makes you choose them?

I'm a "visual" collector. If it looks colorful, unique, or just plain snazzy, I'll buy it. I'm not tied to a particular country, pilot or type except when we are talking about Japanese or US Navy WWII aircraft. Then I'll get just about anything that's offered. Lately, I've started buying planes based on recommendations from all of you here on the Hanger - you know, a monkey see, monkey do type of thing. No offense meant here guys!

My Dragon Mustangs were bought because they looked good. BBD, Special Blue, The Millie G.

My Levine Spitfire because many of you raved about it.

My P-47 Bubbletop Thunderbolts because they look good. Eagleston & P47M

Wildcats and Hellcat - because they are what they are.

Doing what you want is freedom; doing what you like is happiness.
