Little bit if this, little bit of that (Dragon Diorama)

New Dragon Carrier Deck Base (came with VFA-102 Diamond Backs F/A-18F) and one deck crew and fire engine. Figures shown are actually from a VFA-41 Black Aces Dragon lesser quality carrier deck diorama (just cardboard) - it had a the "shooter" and safety officer - the current VFA-102 has a yellow shirt directing plane onto Cat)....and of course (sorry Dragon) the main atttraction - A Century Wings kneeling F-14 VF-84 Jolly Rogers Tomcat in lauch position and ready to go - all its missing is the cat shuttle but who's perfect ??

Sad to say that the F/A-18F that came in the box is still in the box.....this carrier deck and blast shield is pretty good considering it is two pieces of heavier cardstock and the blast shield is one piece plastic with six struts (plastic)...lot cheaper than the resin set that is becoming hard to find.

Thanks for looking !

Merry Christmas,
Ed

Very nice. I am eagerly waiting for my VFA-102 F/A-18F with carrier deck to arrive. Should be any time now. Will be displaying my VF-154 kneeling F-14A with the deck and crew figures from 3 different Dragon diorama sets, namely VFA-41 F/A-18F, VX-9 F-14D and Dragon VF-11 F-14B (50278).

Very nice Edb! I was planning on doing the same thing (including leaving the Super Hornet in the box ). It's just a bit hard to justify spending $40+ bucks on cardboard though.....especially when I could get another CW plane for another 10 spot!

Re: Little bit if this, little bit of that (Dragon Diorama)

I hear you.....I will use the Super Hornet for something (maybe re-gift it !!).....I bought the resin carrier set-up for like $75 and don't really have the skills to do it justice...Theis deck is a step up from the cheesy single sheet that dragon did in the past...The figures are difficult to work with and balance as they bend quite easily...somebody should (Century are you listening) do a high end, pre-done deck section with the cat shuttle and several crew members etc...they made the "kneeling models" so lets get some quality dioramas....I would pay $100 for a Century on a nice heavy, solid, base with a few figures.

Just my $0.02 more.

Merry Christmas !!

Ed

Speaking of dioramas, if you haven't gotten the GMP Pacific dio then you are really missing out! That thing is awesome (as well as GMP planes). Anyway, the old flimsy Dragon paper plate dio's really turned me off to their dios but I guess I'll give them another try since yours looks so good.

Nice use of materials, edb......How about taking a cotton ball (or two) and stretch it apart, placing it along the cat track and around the nosegear area to represent steam coming off the catapult. This would also help to conceal the lack of a shuttle....I've used this method before to represent smoke coming from model ship smokestacks to pretty good effect....Wouldn't hurt to give it a try.

Great display Ed!

I want to do same. I have the CW F-14, but need the rest. I guess it's time to look around for all the right parts. Too bad I don't really want the additional Dragon Super Hornet ( I have one and it's enough; I don't think they are that great myself)...

I don't want the hornet either, but it saves me the time and painting skills. I'll just ebay my hornet

Yep, my thoughts exactly. I want the diorama base bad enough to purchase the whole thing anyway, then I'll figure out what to do with the plane...

I Do wish they had included more/better deck crew figures with it, though...
