Saturn V and Space Shuttle

I have both of these Dragon Models and I think they are a great addition to an "Air and Space" collection. Does anyone else here have these too? Of course, I also include the Corgi Command Module and the Code 3 Lunar Module, Apollo Capsule, Gemini Capsule, and Mercury Capsule as part of my collection as well. I also have Danbury Mint's Saturn V and Mercury Capsule.

Re: Saturn V and Space Shuttle

Landslide, where did you get the Saturn V. I have been looking for one for a while. I have seen them only at Aikens and they cost $35.00 ( the origional model ). I was hoping to pick one up for a little less, or at least find the second generation one that is detachable.

Re: Saturn V and Space Shuttle

I have both versions and they are nicely done. I got them from Diecast Direct 4 or 5 years ago.

You don't know why you wanted to get it or why you didn't get it? I don't get it!

Re: Saturn V and Space Shuttle

I have Columbia with boosters and white tank (which of course went for insane prices for a long time after the accident, I eventually found one at retail--that one was hard to find and priced accordingly BEFORE the accident, which is why I didn't get it earlier----Columbia was always my fave shuttle), Atlantis with boosters (the most accurate of the orange-boostered ones they make), and the Saturn V that's made of separate parts---I hollowed out the upper connecting rings a bit so I could actually fit the landing module inside (it's molded "deployed" so it won't fit as-is)

White-boostered Columbia has the entire back-end of the orbiter itself white instead of black though. I did a pretty nice job IMHO of painting it up right.

I'm really not certain for sure...I don't remember....

David H; just curious as to what made Columbia your fave...I couldn't tell one orbiter from the other unless I saw the name on the side...Were there differences in them?

Re: Saturn V and Space Shuttle

The name? The fact that at the point that I chose my fave it was one of only 2?

Also---Columbia's very easy to tell at any point in its existence, due to unique paint pattern and markings. It became even easier to tell at the end, unique tailfin. It's the only one that's clearly unique from a distance.

Challenger is hard to spot unless pics are so close you can tell the texture difference on the thermal blankets from the others, I think the only real color difference is emergency hatch marking variations from the "standard 3"---Discovery, Atlantis, Endeavour. Maybe the flaperon hinge covers, have to see when they were changed---if D/A were delivered with the earlier pattern.

Discovery and Atlantis are twins AFAIK, unless you know mission-by-mission tile variations. And we're talking like "one" tile.

Endeavour was built with the revised tail base, the others got it later, so if it's missing it, it can't be Endeavour. Also I forgot my shuttles in my previous post--my model is of Endeavour, not Atlantis. Atlantis is my second fave, but DW just plain painted it weird. Tan and purple? WTF were they referencing? (actually I think I know, and it just shows what happens when you only use 1 photo and don't understand what it's actually showing)

Interestingly, despite DW's Endeavour looking "extremely typical" (part of the reason I chose that model) it actually only looked like that for one mission. (Checks) STS-89:

This photo has to be VERY close to launch (couple minutes), as the safeties are off the SRB's.

Re: Saturn V and Space Shuttle

I picked up the Discovery diorama and the detachable Saturn V a few years ago and I really enjoy them. While the Shuttle is a little small, its nicely done with a robot arm and payload. I'd really love to be able to find one of the models with the booster rockets, I don't think I've even seen one before. Does anyone know of a good place to pick on up reasonably priced? Thanks

Anything for a weird life.
