Question on Dragon F4 Wildcat 50192

I just got :
Dragon Warbirds 50192
F4F (FM-2) Wildcat Diecast Model
USN VC-93, "White 29", Hatherly Foster III, USS Petrof Bay, April 1945

It's a great looking plane, but I noticed something odd. On the right side, just under the cockpit, this is written :

" Lt. R. C. Sullivan " with one Japanese kill flag behind it.

Just wondering if anyone knows the story on this. Why would the plane have Mr. Sullivan's name on it if it was flown by H. Foster III. Was it a borrowed plane? Thanks for any information you blokes can provide.

Re: Question on Dragon F4 Wildcat 50192

Hi, Sky Buffalo-

For what's it's worth, here's an earlier post, when I picked this one up myself:

Although the model is described online as Lt. Hatherly Foster III's mount, the name on the model is Lt. F.C. or R.C. Sullivan. Hatherly is a misspelling, anyway: It should be Lt. j.g. Ratherly Foster III, who was awarded a Navy Cross for his actions as a pilot assigned to VC-93 on April 12, 1945. Maybe Foster flew Sullivan's plane that day...

This USS Petrof Bay site features a squadron history of VC-93 and photos of FM-2s and Avengers with the cloverleaf insigina, as well as photos of VC-93 pilots including Robert Sullivan and Bud Foster, which I think is pretty neat: http://home.comcast.net/~ivorjeffreys/petrof.html.

Name wrong or not it sure is a nice looking heavy model for its size. I can't read the name anyway. Too small

Perhaps the small lettering is Dragon's attempt to divert our attention from the Jimmy Durante-sized propeller hub they put on this baby.

Re: Question on Dragon F4 Wildcat 50192

Well, if you're name was "Ratherly", you'd better make up for it some somehow, like having a huge propeller hub ... wink, wink, nudge, nudge, know what I mean?
