Re: How much work do you have to do on dragon wabirds?

As I recall, this is a more technical name for Superglue, Krazy Glue, etc, which I frequently use on my models. Trouble is that when I apply even small amounts of this stuff on or very near a canopy, I risk misting, which is a real pain. The negative effects can be fixed to some extent by careful applications of Future floor polish, but I try to avoid this particular risk as much as possible. Perhaps I'm not using this type of glue for making antennae- to-canopy attachments correctly. Have you found a method that circumvents the misting problem?

Anytime clear plastic is involved one must be extra careful with the Superglues. I don't even use it around "glass". White glue dries clear and is water soluble so if you mess up just take a wet Q-Tip and clean it off. I've heard of some guys using jewelers glue for clear parts as well. Definitely don't use modeler's glue as it is a solvent and will melt plastic.

Just apply it as sparingly as possible..In cases like this I usually squeeze a drop out onto a piece of paper, dip a toothpick slightly into it and then touch the tip of the pick to the bottom of the antenna. You just want to make sure your aim is dead-on accurate when you touch the antenna to the surface, of course...I've never had a problem using this method.

I don't mess with the landing gear as all of mine are in-flight mode. And being a model builder, nothing so far from Dragon seems to be too stressfull. I use white glue to secure everything, since I tend to move allot being in the military. Don't let it put you off, the parts aren't that bad.

Re: How much work do you have to do on dragon wabirds?

Best P47s on the market by a mile.

Yesterday I spent 10 hours setting up my new detolf cabinet and filling it with planes from my storage facility at jims aero warehouse in the loft.
I assembled about 8 Dragons with no problem.
The FW190s are the most awkward for sure but with patience they came out well.
For me the fiddly bits make the plane look more realistic than the cast in one piece efforts of others.

The plane that made me sweat the most was the GMP P40, when I pressed the button for the undercart to come down only one wheel moved about 1/4 inch and then stuck.
No amount of re pressing or gentle push pull made any difference.

However the age old technique much used by engineers worked, (a short sharp tap with a blunt instrument) and with a gentle whirring noise out they popped.

So" back on thread, go forth and purchase Dragons with the safe and certain knowledge that you will be happy with them and will enjoy them.

My Dragon Fw190 needed the holes reamed open in the wings so the 20mm barrels would fit.

Hi Jim,

For my "English" education...Am I to assume the loft you refer to would be what Americans refer to as an attic? ie. a generally unlivable space under the roof.

Cap,I think lofts must not quite be the same thing as our attics, because they sure talk about them a lot over there. I don't go up into my attic unless I absolutely have to. It's a hundred below zero up there in January and two hundred degrees above in July....not to mention I have to walk around on my knees.

Hi Jim,

Hi Capt,
Yes the loft is the attic, the place I live is an old house 1885ish so the loft/attic is huge. You can walk around up there but the problem is that there is over 120 years worth of muck n dust there.
If I had the money I would do a conversion and make a penthouse type diecast den. If you would like to donate say around $40,000 (I am not greedy) then I could do a nice job and Loraine would never know how many diecast I have bought.
(that would be part of the spec, you see I am very tall and thin so I can scramble up there no problem, however Lorrraine being a hefty Yorkshire lass cannot fit through the trapdoor so she has never been up there and if I maintain the same trapdoor she never will).

BTW Skunky I have the same problem as you with the temperature up there, the roof was never linined in Victorian times so the wind whistles under the roof slates.

God Bless America.

Re: How much work do you have to do on dragon wabirds?

L.S.,

I need 2 hours (regular F16/F18) to two months (first F14/VF-111) to complete a Dragon Warbird. The two months I needed was to recover and to start again and again. It was a complete rebuilt with 20% repainting of the model.
