Re: New Dragon Me-262A-2a Bomber

if so, that's not correct.. Sinners Me-262 should have rocket tubes mounted where the bombs would go..

ll

I concur on this one. But hey I'll just have to find some use for those bombs one way or the other.

Re: New Dragon Me-262A-2a Bomber

A Me262 carrying bombs is an abomination ...and Galland agrees with me

It was a stupid waste of effort and pointless. Yet another example of Hitler and the Reichsluftfahrtministerium interfering and overriding expert opinion.

2000, 262s were built by the end of the war, its a good thing that they couldn't get them into proper operational units and fueled up otherwise the war could have dragged on a lot longer.

Footnote, nearly 500 almost completed 262s of the final total were destroyed by Allied air attack.

BTW how about an example fitted with the 50mm cannon.
Or,, How about the rocket boosted variant, a ride in that one would have been interesting.

Hmmm... maybe they were rockets, not bombs -- they were awfully small. But they're definitely not "tubes" ... I'd check, as I have the model, but I lost and/or misplaced 'em a couple moves ago

2x 550lbs may be small but would make a nice hole in your back garden Pappy, Oh you mean the the models bombs were small, I new that all the time, Honest.

Re: New Dragon Me-262A-2a Bomber

Jim,
Hey there.

One of the versions I was hoping for was the 50mm cannon version. I was also hoping for the "droop snoot" version.

Yes, rockets and bombs would make soem nice additions to these birds. I'd like to have some load options for all my planes.

Anything for a weird life.

Hi djjeffhall,
I had to think a while to remember the droop snoot, they only built a prototype I think, was it the one with a bomb aimer laid on his belly on the cockpit floor?

An example fitted with R4M s would be a cool option also, I wonder if Corgi or Dragon will keep bringing them out so we get these.

I doubt we will see a droop though , too much rejigging for that one, maybe!

Was Hitler just plain old stupid, or desperate? Or both? I can only imagine Galland’s reaction to Der Fuhrer’s dictate to hang heavy metal nose nuggets off the 262's snout.

I think I read somewhere that this bombs-under-the-beak configuration did a job on the 262's stability. Can you imagine taking off with two 550 pounders hung under your nose?

It is never too late to be what you might have been.

Re: New Dragon Me-262A-2a Bomber

Jim,
Hey there.

Yeah, I think they only built one of the droop snoot version and yes, it had the bombadier laid out in the nose just like the P-38.

I'm not sure how many of the 50mm versions were built, or if they saw service? I kind of get the impression that anything other than a basic trainer and fighter version were one off planes. The last year of the Reich was so insane and whirlwind that I'm sure the Luftwaffe tried almost anything once.

Gort,
Was Hitler insane or desperate? Yes.

Hitler wasn't stupid, I'm sure he knew it was over after Stalingrad. He also knew that there was NO WAY the allies were going to allow him to live out his days peacefully after starting a war and starting a mass extermination program, so why bother to negotiate a truce? Fight to the end and maybe, just maybe the allies will get to bloodied to stick it out. That's what I personally believe he was thinking somewhere in the back of his head up to the time that the Bulge collapsed. After that it all delusion.

Anything for a weird life.

Everyone happy with the accuracy of the scheme. I pre-ordered the nightfighter and was very disappointed when it finally appeared.
