Thumbs up Re: Dragon F6F Hellcat 50242 disappointment

Ok so here are the improvements. I hope you can make out the shim near the canopy tracks and the addition to the rear of the canopy. I actually had to use model glue on the canopy, I left it off to prevent frosting of the glass while it dried. It wasn't as painfull as I thought, but it still doesn't speak well for Dragon.

Re: Dragon F6F Hellcat 50242 disappointment

Good Grief.
It was hard to visualize problem from your first description but it shows clearly now.
Not what you would expect from Dragon. As others have posted no similar problems you seem to have the market cornered on the one that got through quality control. Happily you have the skills to make such an excellent fix.
Now for that finger of light blue right?

I most certainly hope that this is an isolated case. I really dig the camo scheme. I still want one too.

Re: Dragon F6F Hellcat 50242 disappointment

Shawn - your fix looks great! Does Dragon provide two canopies (one for open config and another for closed) or do they only provide one closed config? Is the canopy assembly 1,2, or 3 parts? Can you still slide the canopy to the open position (is it designed to do that or what)?

Re: Dragon F6F Hellcat 50242 disappointment

You get the standard two types. One piece closed and the two piece open. No it wont slide back and forth to open/close like the Wildcats. Had Dragon pulled that off I'd say they were the bees knees.

Re: Dragon F6F Hellcat 50242 disappointment

Shawn,

I echo lanslide's sentiments - you did a FANTASTIC job fixing this bird. I'm really disappointed in Dragon to have put you through this. I really wanted one of these models, but I'm not willing to risk it. I don't have the patience or modeling skills to go through what you've done. Kudos to your excellent modeling skills!

It really wasn't that difficult to fix. I could walk you thru it if you buy one. It was just a big let down, I really like this bird and may not fix the paint job afterall.

Unhappy Re: Dragon F6F Hellcat 50242 disappointment

I checked pics on the Flying Mule site and the prognosis is not good.

Re: Dragon F6F Hellcat 50242 disappointment

A good fix really. I don't think this one is as bad and to date, it is my best Hellcat.
