Question Re: Dragon F6F Hellcat 50242 disappointment

Not a good report. I was looking forward to getting this one. In my mind this is one cool three tone camo scheme, exactly what I was initially expecting. The others just seem so sterile. Anyone else have similar experiences with this particular model?

Re: Dragon F6F Hellcat 50242 disappointment

So I finally get my Hellcat from Bad Cat and man am I bummed out. This has the worst cockpit to body fit of all the Dragon hellcats. I can't tell where they went wrong considering the 50240 version was pretty good. I'm gonna have to do some sort of shimming and build up of plastic to get the cockpit to seal up. Such a great livery and such crappy assembly. Man this sucks!!

Shawn - Isn't the gap you are referring to supposed to be the canopy track slot behind the canopy itself? If not, maybe you could just file or sand it down a little.

Yeah but your not suppose to see port to starboard on the canopy track. I just finished converting my GA Ding Hao into an Old Crow. Tomarrow I start on the Hellcat. We'll see how it turns out.

Re: Dragon F6F Hellcat 50242 disappointment

Here are some pics. I can slide a business card between the rear of the canopy and the body, and I was able to slide a piece of 3M paper thru the body on near the canopy tracks. Now its off to fix it.

Re: Dragon F6F Hellcat 50242 disappointment

I kind of like the looks of it with the 3M paper stuck in it....I'm going to have to get some of that.

Cool Re: Dragon F6F Hellcat 50242 disappointment

Yikes, not good, not good at all. Have you asked for a replacement, or is it just a fixable PITA?

Re: Dragon F6F Hellcat 50242 disappointment

So far I've blocked off the offending area behind the cockpit ( canopy rail area ) with sheet plastic. When painted it should be ok. The area behind the cockpit is the hard part. Right now I've glued some sheet plastic to the canopy and have it in place drying. When dry I hope to cut to fit and then paint it to match. We'll see how that works since its white glue. So far its a Minor PITA.
