Re: Dragon Warbirds B-17 1:144

Pretty nice looking, but, somehow, for me, painted windows just do not not do it!

When it's that small, paint actually replicates windows better than clear pastic. Gaps become a real issue.

THAT must be why I do not collect 1:44. Though, eventually, I might have to either buy a Dragon B 29, or possibly put together a 1:72 model of a B 29.

...but it still looks a lot better than Corgi's pathetic effort in this scale. I would probably pick it up if I find it at the right price.

Actually, I don't see any more significant improvement than Corgi's efforts....fact is I thought I was seeing a Corgi re-release, but that's just me.

Come on flyXwire look closer the Dragon B-17 has the panel lines on it...Corgi does not have that.
Dragon is a little better i think.

Points to Dragon for details and finish, but I can't get past that nose. If you take a look at this pic (thanks to the lovely and talented Mr. Tricatus), the Corgi 1:144 B-17 has the basic shape correct, whereas Dragon has it nowhere near tapered enough.

Re: Dragon Warbirds B-17 1:144

Well i guess it will have to be up to the collectors which one they like better.
I see there is no dome on the nose of the Dragon B-17 as well.
Nose area is a little different but not by much ...After all this is a 1:144 scale too.
Check out the picture to compare the two.

Re: Dragon Warbirds B-17 1:144

The no nose buble might be correct as early B-17F's did not have them. The Memphis Belle is an example of that, as it doesn't have on either. As for the Corgi 1/144 B-17's

Re: Dragon Warbirds B-17 1:144

I think the props are absolutely the worst thing about Corgi's example. Not to mention how nicely the blue-painted windows clash with the clear pieces. Did Corgi intend to put clear landing lights on the wings, and then forgot?.....Let's face it, Corgi's 1/144 B-17s suck and Draggin's blows...(or maybe it's the other way around)

Same for me......much prefer 1/72.........Some of Corgi's later versions have been crackers!

Re: Dragon Warbirds B-17 1:144

I have several Johnny Lightning and 21st Century 1/144 fighters, and I was considering getting a Dragon B-17 to display with them. After seeing these pics, I'll pass.
