| Dragon Corsair skull and bones
Last edited by Louie : 03-19-2007 at 08:09 PM.
Guys give it to me straight please- I saw the McClusky White 15 F4U today and it is gorgeous. I stopped buying Dragon stuff because I was sick of weak ,wobbly landing gear. How well do the Corsairs hold up to landing gear down configuration? Will the legs bow or collapse? I really want honest un-biased opinions. This thread is not meant to be a Dragon bashing thread. Thanks in advance. This Corrsair will go so well with the up-coming Vraciu Hellcat from HM I think. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Dragon Corsair skull and bones I have the "Skipper's Orchid" Corsair, and have pretty much everything attatched with normal white (PVA) glue. As long as you treat it like a regular plastic or resin model it comes off quite well. Far more delicate than a Corgi, but it does okay. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Dragon Corsair skull and bones I have two Dragon Corsairs, USS Essex and Boyington's. without using glue I can't display Boyingtons with landing gear down. My Essex however is displayed w gear down and is a tad wobbly but its alright. But if glue can fix your problem I don't think I have seen any better Corsair models than Dragon. | |||||||||||||

| I'm quite eager to get some comment too. I like the 3 tone Dragon but heard that their Corsairs were nowhere near as good as the P51s and P47s. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Dragon Corsair skull and bones I have four of the Corsairs. The two all blue navy birds, Boyingtons, and the one in question. I've never tried the gear down option, but I do like them over the Corgi version. If only they'd do a early birdcage version. - Shawn | |||||||||||||

| Re: Dragon Corsair skull and bones Dragon's landing gear is more accurate. You do have to glue it. Corgi's gear is really clunky, but that's what makes it so sturdy. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Dragon Corsair skull and bones I have only 1 Dragon Corsair and to me it looks better then Corgi's one. I have my gear up on mine and i agree the landing gears on Dragons look better. JP | |||||||||||||

| Re: Dragon Corsair skull and bones The Corsair gear on the Dragon birds takes some work. If you have the time, you might file down the thickness of the peg going into the wing. My tends to go in (With a little force) but pop out eventually after a few days. (Kind of like if you wear ear plugs to bed, if you know what I mean.) White glue works fine at holding them in. It's a minor annoyance. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Dragon Corsair skull and bones The Dragon Corsairs definitely are a "labor of love" so to speak. They've got issues... but the end result is worth the hassles of a little glue and assembly time IMHO. Park one next to a Corgi and the pooch looks instanty toyish (I have a few Corsairs from each -- and like each brand for different reasons). White glue is really a requirement for the gear-down option, though, definitely -- there's a lot more metal content in these than corgi's and the weight will make the gear splay after a bit if you don't use white glue. Take the plunge, Louie, you won't regret it...
