| I was not speaking specifically about the Corgi 1/72 scale P-51s, all of which are based on old molds so far as I am aware. My reference was to such planes as the newer Spits, Me 262s and FW 190s, especially my Flying Mule limited edition livery.
I understand that the Dragon P-51s have greater detail and better fit and finish the Corgi P-51s. Still those dark highlights make the Dragons look a bit too cartoonish for my taste. It's not that I dislike them. But I see it as a notable "con" for many of their offerings. Love Dragon's AFVs though. |
Okay, I see now what you meant -- however to me this is comparing apples and oranges

, as this thread was about the P-51D "Petie" specifically, which is why I was thrown off the scent, so to speak. I personally, don't think the wash effect on the Dragons is too much at all, especially compared to the likes of FOV, IXO, and HM. Some of corgi's new releases are very good, certainly, and my tastes for which brand I prefer differs mold by mold. I happen to prefer Dragon's P-51s, 262s (I'm probably in the minority on this one), P-47s, Corsairs, and 190s (though they are a pain in the arse to assemble!). Personally, I like the grimy, used look of the Dragons overall. Corgi can't be beat for range of models -- and you're right, some of the new offerings are truly excellent. And I also appreciate Corgi's higher "collectibility" factor -- limited releases with certs...
When it comes to Spits, I think Gemini is the new King in town, but I digress
