| Dragon Spitfire Mk.Vb No. 616 Squadron 1941 If I had gotten this model before I saw the Gemini Spitfires I'd probably be much more excited about it. Still it is a different model of Spitfire and looks quite nice. The only bits I had any trouble with on this Dragon were the landing gear. They really need glue to fix them in place. Here Gemini has a much better gear down system. And the tail wheel looks wrong to me but that is the only way you can install it. Pretty lukewarm overall on this one. It is what I wanted- a 1941 Spitfire. Once together it doesn't look too out of place with the Gemini Spits. But it is not a model that will stand out and take your breath away. Again having the Gemini Spitfires first really points out the gap between them and Dragon on this airframe. Now I need to add a 1940 Corgi Spitfire too, just to round things out.... My standard Dragon disclosure statement- I'm a Dragon dealer selling their cruise ship models but I don't stock or sell their other models. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | |||||||||||||

| Re: Dragon Spitfire Mk.Vb No. 616 Squadron 1941 Nice pics again 1250, my only real issue with this one is the thickness of the wings, which is really noticable on the clipped wing version.. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Dragon Spitfire Mk.Vb No. 616 Squadron 1941 As a 'Spitfire' nut I was waiting for this to come along for a while. The wing chord is a little on the thick side and the undercarriage needs work. If you get a sharp scalpel you can remove a small piece from the top of the tail wheel strut therefore making it easier to insert and it does not protrude so much. You can lose the 'banana' radio aerial by grasping the curved part and GENTLY pressing against your thumb; this will straighten eventually. Compared to the Modelzone John A Kent commission this is an excellent model if you want the early day fighter paint scheme. Now if only Gemini were to do a MkVb? ![]() | |||||||||||||

| Re: Dragon Spitfire Mk.Vb No. 616 Squadron 1941 I bought this one too and I'm happy with it. As Shamrock says - much better than the Corgi's, and I think the wing thickness isn't nearly as apparent as on the clipped wing models. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Dragon Spitfire Mk.Vb No. 616 Squadron 1941 I just got this Spitfire. I wanted a MkVb with brown and green camouflage. I like it better than Corgi and Gemini only does Mk IXs so far. My first problem was Dragon glued the wheel well fairings on the wrong gear struts. Look at 1250ships' picture, they are swapped! But they are easy enough to remove and glue into their correct places. The second problem is the same as 1250ships experienced. The landing gear needs glue to fix them in place. The third thing is the box states "w/Aboukir Filter." Thankfully, it's a standard air intake, not an Aboukir filter. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Dragon Spitfire Mk.Vb No. 616 Squadron 1941 I got this model in July, and am please with it for the most part. It's the only Mk V I've found that is in green and brown. The thing I don't like is that on the "gear up" piece, the spokes of the wheels are printed instead of molded. That is rather disappointing. | |||||||||||||

| Very nice pics Ships. I got the clipped wing one, No. 234 Sqn., if I remember correctly. I wanted a clipped wing Spit and I think this one was the first or second. As leeG says, green and brown Mk V is a great idea. Geez, there's so much out there now! | |||||||||||||

| Re: Dragon Spitfire Mk.Vb No. 616 Squadron 1941 I bought this particular Spitfire at a newly opened Hobby Town USA shop in my AO tonight. Other than what had already been mentioned as far as it's shortcomings, I really like the early Battle of Britain-esque two tone camouflage paint scheme and I am very happy it. Looks great displayed with my other variant Spits from Gemini Aces. ![]() | |||||||||||||

Wow, I did not know that! Mine's still in the box and it may stay as such based on your comment. It does look pretty in the box, at least it's got that going for it...

On the "gear down" version the spoke details are molded, though.
Agreed! If it did had the "Aboukir Filter" it would look ugly as the shape of the air intake looks like a bloated 'Puff fish'!
