dragon weapon sets

Anyone have any advice or resources that help decipher what weapons should go with which of Dragon's aircraft?

I've got all the weapons sets but haven't gone about trying to use them yet as my first "lets see if this fits on the f-15" attempts failed miserably... (hides head in shame).

Re: dragon weapon sets

Thanks Nockers, I'll study those a bit -- my Dirty Dozen F-15 doesn't even have the hardpoints to add any of this stuff though Be handy if they actually listed models the sets were compatible with!

Some of the bombs fit on my Chippy Ho F/A-18C but wheter or not they belong where I put 'em, well.. that's another story

and btw, anyone get the pilots from set 2 to fit in ANY dragon jet?

Wait... I was able to JAM the pilot in my F-16, and add a couple jdam and aim-120's to the hardpoints. Would it actually ever have carried such a loadout, dunno -- but it looks cool

Amputate them pilot legs!

Re: dragon weapon sets

Part of the problem is how Dragon did the sets and planes themselves---there's not much compatability, even when there should be. Examples:

Every Dragon F-16 has HARM launch rails molded on. While you can physically fit several weapons on it due to how Dragon made it, it's "wrong" for any weapon but a HARM, and often looks strange, as you may end up with a double or triple layer of launchers/racks/pylons.

And, ironically----Dragon did the same to their Super Hornet. However, Dragon's own HARM missile will not fit on their Super Hornet HARM launcher. AMRAAM's fit, however. Witty's Super Hornet also has HARM rails, with AMRAAM's glued on. I'd bet good money they both copied the Hasegawa kit's weapons, as it has the same error--as well as the same PAINT error on the AMRAAM on the HARM launcher. Way too much to be a coincidence. It's one thing to make the same mistake with a weapon rail, but to also have the same paint mistake on the missile?

Dragon glued the bombs on their MER rack backwards, so it doesn't look right if you attach it "bombs facing the right way"---and you'll probably end up with it on a HARM rail anyways, so...

Finally, since Dragon molded the attachment points on their Hornets' wingtip rails to accomodate an AMRAAM (which real Hornets cannot), it messes up the placement for a Sidewinder there (Which is the only thing a Hornet really can carry there)

I have set 1 and 2, but can only use like 4 or 5 bits. (I broke off the HARM rails from my Wolfpack F-16 and glued GBU-24's directly onto the pylon--one of the few things you can really do with Dragon's sets and their F-16 to get a realistic weapon load).

Basically--if Dragon had just given us "raw" pylons, and included the adapters/rails with the weapons----most everything would fit fine, and be accurate. But since they tend to give us "raw" weapons, and various launchers on the planes---it screws everything up.

If something doesn't fit or doesn't look right---it's all Dragon's fault. If you can get anything to work, and look ok---count yourself lucky.

PS---if Dragon would just give us a few simple, basic, dumb bombs--we could use them most anywhere on anything. All they ever give us are laser guided and JDAM's---which can only be used by certain planes with certain other equipment installed, and in certain time frames! Century includes several small dumb bombs with their VF-154 F-14, which are very useful for most any other plane.

Re: dragon weapon sets

Thanks Dave... at the very least I don't feel quite so, well, ... anymore!

I'm pretty sure my new F-16 loadout is most certainly fictional, based on your info, but like you said -- it fit without drastic modifications, so... I'll count my chickens I suppose.

I'll snap a pic or two tomorrow if I can and you can have a good laugh

Seriously, though, thanks for the wealth of info!
