Got My First 1/72 Planes in!

I got 6 out of 7 of the 1/72 planes I ordered. 5 were Dragon, and 1 was an IXO P51 Mustang(I made a mistake when I ordered thinking I was ordering a Dragon P51, but the IXO still looks pretty good). I should get the 7th plane early next week - a HM Dauntless. I love Dragon's packaging! All of the planes I purchased are pretty impressive. I will be putting on the "fiddly" parts this week. My tanks are a little uneasy with these planes around. They will just have to get used to it.

Sounds like you have some nice recent additions. Are these your first airplanes?

Re: Got My First 1/72 Planes in!

These are my first! I am mainly an armor guy with ca. 150 tanks - 100 of those are 1/72. Thought I would have a look at the planes - glad I did. I certainly won't get as many planes as tanks, but would like a few of the main warplanes of WWII.

Yeah I was mainly an armor guy too. Buying, collecting, building 1/35th scale armor. Had most of the Matchbox planes then they went belly up. Then got hooked on the Dragon, Hobby Master, Gemini birds.

Congratulations, Philip, on you new purchase and new collection direction ("collection direction"....has a nice ring to it!).

Yea, I started with armor now selling classic armor (Wittmann Dragon, etc) to buy aircraft. What an addiction. Why couldn't I have been a math major.

Re: Got My First 1/72 Planes in!

Dont forget the Hurricane tank buster! Your tanks will get more than a little uneasy. If you want to really terrify them then buy a Typhoon!!!

May I recommend some professional tank-busters to give your tanks some real nightmares :

IXO Hawker Typhoon - It's from the Battle of the Falaise Gap (there are also other Typhoon versions by Corgi)
IXO Henschel Hs 129
IXO Ilyushin Il-2 Shturmovik
IXO Ilyushin Il-10
Hobby Master Hans Rudel Stuka (he's basically the devil incarnate for your tank community)

Hawker Hurricane MkIID (oh, yeah, Jim!) - Corgi has the only one out in 1/72 that I know of, but it's hard to find now.

Welcome to the Rodeo, Copland. I just recently did the opposite of you - I purchased a few tanks as targets for my tankbusters in my big ol' air force.
