| New Super Hornet announced--Red Rippers ![]() *actual product may not be exactly as shown 50298 1/72 F/A-18F Super Hornet VFA-11 "Red Rippers" Item No: DRW 50298 Scale: 1:72 Arrival: October 2007 Barcode: 0 89195 50298 8 Packaging: 10 Pieces per carton Box Size: 10.2"x10.2"x3.1" Main Features: - True to 1/72 scale - High quality diecast metal - Accurate markings and paint scheme - Removable Weapons - Detailed Cockpit - Opening Canopy - Moving Wing Flaps - Pre-assembled - Display In Flight or In Landing Mode (stand included) "VFA-11, the “Red Rippers”, is a fighter squadron of the U.S. Navy that operates the F/A-18F Super Hornet. The squadron was originally established in 1927, and it served in WWII, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. It has come a long way from the McDonnell F2H Banshee, the unit’s first jet-engine aircraft, for it now operates the Super Hornet. VF-11 began transitioning to the F/A-18 after its return from a deployment to Iraq with its F-14 Tomcats in 2004. Dragon Warbirds has released a fine new replica of an F/A-18F, the two-seat variant of the Super Hornet. The fighter entered service in 1999, but Dragon ensures this model is well up to 2007 standards. The form of the plane is accurately captured, and all its sleek details are present. The colorful markings are beautifully pad painted in situ, including the logo and call sign on the tail that were carried on from the F-14s of the “Red Rippers”. The twin General Electric F414-GE-400 turbofan engines propel the real Super Hornet to a maximum speed of Mach 1.6 or 1680km/h, and with a model as excellent as this, this Warbirds’ item won’t be far behind it!" Dragon Wings - Warbird SeriesDragon Warbirds 1/72 & 1/144 Diecast series (by Dragon Models) This series includes high quality diecast models of modern and historical military aircraft. All items are true to scale, they include detailed markings, have removable weapons, detailed cockpits, moving wing flaps and even opening canopies. { edited by Admin 08-22-2007 09:11 } http://www.dragonmodelsusa.com/dmlus...p?pid=DRW50298 | |||||||||||||

We're urinating against the wind with this. Draggin' evidently feels there aren't enough of us low-viz freaks out here to make it worth their while to do anything other than "Showbirds'... | ||||||||||||||

| Re: New Super Hornet announced--Red Rippers There's a lot of Super Hornet squadrons out there, but they never do any of the ones I consider to have the better CAG schemes---or they pick the least-cool variation of that squadron's CAG. Problem is, the two best-looking squadrons, Jolly Rogers and Bounty Hunters, were already done but have the old and very inaccurate mold. I'd love a re-release with the corrected mold, but that's unlikely to happen, especially for the Bounty Hunters. We've got a zillion Black Aces now, but the scheme just isn't that cool. And we still don't have any of the neat variations of the Black Knights. Well, maybe when the Blue Diamonds and Sidewinders get theirs, they'll have some cool schemes. | |||||||||||||

| Re: New Super Hornet announced--Red Rippers I just read somewhere that the Navy is ordering a lot of the CAG birds with the colors be stripped down to just dark/light greys....so no more nice colorful Hornets anymore. | |||||||||||||

| Re: New Super Hornet announced--Red Rippers I haven't heard that, but they are certainly cracking down on the low-vis and CO planes. The Jolly Rogers had to go back to light grey tails instead of dark grey, and almost every squadron has had the CO plane go from "copy of the CAG" to "low vis with a small colored accent". They are also stripping most all striping from low-vis, even if the striping is grey. | |||||||||||||

| Re: New Super Hornet announced--Red Rippers Yeah because the Al-Queda Air Force can spot them from so far away. Is there anything the lesser sousl wont mess with. Pilots like it, we'll get rid of it. Reminds me of the Lt whos wife wanted to change our Army Blue uniforms if ever he becomes the ACoS. She didn't like the light blue trousers with a dark blue jacket. Flippin' twit has no clue why they are that way or the history behind it. - Shawn | |||||||||||||

| Re: New Super Hornet announced--Red Rippers Yes, Shawn, I had to explain the dress blues color scheme to my wife. Anyways, I had read in a book many years ago that the bright colorful schemes actually make it easier for heat-seeking missiles to lock on to an aircraft. Is this true? And if so, how does it work? | |||||||||||||
