Re: Dragon and Swazi's -- what's up with this?

Actually, I have a few 1/6 scale Dragon WWII action figures and the SS and Death's Head collar insignias on the Germans have black tape over them. The tape comes off to reveal the proper insignia, but the insignias are obscured unless you peel off the tape.

Dragon can be a little too PC. But at least the collars are not solid black.

Geez you guys. Too much caffeine or something? No one's out to get your precious crooked crosses. Sometimes they are just as they are supposed to be...

Crosses are legit. But the Nazi flag was red with a swazi in the center, not an X. The pic of GGIII posted in this thread clearly has a red Nazi flag with an "X" in the center of the white circle.

No German flag, Nazi or otherwise, had an "X" in the center of it.

Yes, the point of this thread was to point out Dragon's inconsistent "PC" stances.... some models have 'em, others have "x" ... strange.

Re: Dragon and Swazi's -- what's up with this?

Understood. I agree with you 100%.

There appeared to be some confusion between legit crosses and bogus Xs in the mind of some members.

As repugnant as it may be, the history (and symbols) of Nazi Germany cannot be re-written. In fact, doing so is a great disservice to the truth.

I think the original post's subject just got dilluted a bit by mixing brands into the conversation.. and the confusion between "crosses' and "x's" at least in terminology used to describe them. My "guess" is that dragon tries to be PC when it isn't painfully obvious (outide of the exclusion of tail swazis) -- they put x's instead of crosses or swazis on kill flags if they think there's a chance you won't notice it much. Petie 2nd would have been really bad to go 100% PC with, for example. Whatever the case, I think the "x's" are really lame (GG p-51D, Gabby's P-47C), and wish they at least would use crosses in place of swazis when swazis were used on the real plane. Most people wouldn't even notice crosses being used instead of swazis, I think -- but the good news is that in 1:72, from average viewing distance, you really don't notice.

If it was being done for purely PC reasons you would think you could see that reflected in the order of the models production -- ie, first Dragon P-51 has swazis, next one has "x's"... but they're all over the place.

Clearly, I'm probably putting way too much thought into this. (And I'm drinking decaf today Canuckle..)

No decaf for me either (what's the point of decaf? ).

I was really expecting someone to remind us that in certain countries, of which Germany is one, the swazi is outlawed and it is a crime to display one. Therefore, a model made for the German market cannot have a swazi on it. Okay, that's a good argument.

However, unless there is some indication that BBD and Petie 2nd are not in demand in Germany...and there is a demand for GGIII...that is clearly not the reason for Dragon's inconsistency with respect to these particular markings.
