Re: Your #1 least favorite Dragon

Well after learning about the BS color scheme on my P-51D Mustang
USAAF 361st FG, 375th FS, Special Blue Edition
I've lost interest in that bird. Thought I do like the model overall. But that was a bummer finding out the truth. Now I have to pick out another Mustang to keep my collection to three each. And the good ones are gone. I did however get Lil Margret and like it allot.

What is the story on this scheme -- I know we hashed it out on MH I but memory fails me.... ?? Corgi makes it, too...

??

Thumbs down Re: Your #1 least favorite Dragon

My list includes the F-18 closely follwed by the F-14

Here's why:

F-18
Landing gear does not hold the plane level.
Poor fit and finish on cockpit (expecially when opened)
Air break...thumbs down...
Weapon ordinance does not stay in place and keeps falling out.

F-14
Poor fit of the landing gear doors and weapon ordinance.
The model is heavy and the landing gears cannot sustain the weight and will "spread" and collapses.
It kept falling appart and one day...I got rid of it...

...despite the criticism... I did keep the F-18's in my collection (Golden Dragons and Top Gun (all black).

If Witty will ever release them...Bye...Bye Dragon...they are going to find another home...

Apparently those in the know didn't, and assumed it was a blue cloud cammo. The registration number turns out to be that of the civillian who painted his privately owned Mustang as such. So there were no blue cammo birds, and the whole thing is about as real as Panther tanks in North Africa during WW II.

Hmmm... the dragon version does have planes of fame stenciled on the nose just in front of the cockpit, so maybe they got it right -- modelled the civ "real deal" not a fictional "pacific theater" camo scheme like Corgi did???

Angry Re: Your #1 least favorite Dragon

I must confess I'm surprised by the negative comments on the Jolly Rogers F14B & F18E. I have both. My problem may be that they're still in their packaging, so thank you for bursting my bubble!

I generally I can't say I have least favorite but do agree that the F15E can do with ordinance. What I don't like is the dam fidley bits!! That and Dragon's pathetically poor service, to me anyway.

I'm still trying to get a Fw190D cannon and Bf109G Black 6 propeller. Thankfully JC Woodman took pity on me and helped me out with some swastikas.

Pappy, I have this same one and I love it...Yes, it's accurately modelled after an actual flying P-51 belonging to the Planes of Fame Museum in Chino,CA..The "BP" on the civ reg# are the initials of its owner, Bob Pond.. I hope this makes you feel better about it now and will lovingly accept it back into your stable..

Yes its a model of an actual flyer form P.O.F.M., but not of a combat A/C. I dont want inaccurate paint schemes based on bad research.
I do like the model, but can't look at it the same way.

Not to beat a dead horse, but.... how is this an inaccurate paint scheme. It's not supposed to be OD, or an actual combat aircraft -- dragon is modelling this P-51, which as Mr. Skunk rightly says is part of the planes of fame group in chino, owned by Mr. Pond. Here's a pic of the real deal.

I understand not wanting a non-combat AC for sure, but it looks to me like dragon got the research right on this one, since they are copying the plane you see in the pic below -- Not sure why Mr. Pond elected for the blue... it's an interesting scheme though.

Corgi's appears to have no business being in that "Pacific Air War" set

Re: Your #1 least favorite Dragon

Here's another piccy of the same plane..

I really don't need my entire collection being of "killer" aircraft..In fact I would love to see Draggin' or HM put out more diecast examples of civvy Mustangs such as Bob Hoover's 'Ol Yeller and Reno racer Miss America.

Uh oh... ....better run now...I think I just heard the topic deviation alert siren go off!..
