Re: Dragon P51D Mustangs

Did anyone even read my post? I'm used to being ignored everywhere else but I thought this place was different.

Well, olive drab in the 40's was called "Dark Olive Drab 41". Hard to mistake that Towards the end of the war it was changed to "Olive Drab ANA 613" which was similar to OD 41 but a bit lighter and a tad greener. in later years FS595 34087 Olive Drab was mistaken for WWII olive drab, which is way off.

So who was the guy who posted that story on the old forum? I'm used to being duped by people, but it's usually just Skunky or you, planenuts. Do either of you remember making up the paint # story?

On the old forum I related what I posted earlier on this thread, but not that story. I don't remember the one you posted.

Re: Dragon P51D Mustangs

I have heard that story here and other places as well about the FS number changing. I prefer the O.D., but even though it is not correct, I still like the blue as well.

Re: Dragon P51D Mustangs

If Dragon knew one P-51D, E2-S was Olive Drab and flew with the 375th FS/361st FG, and Blue E2-S sits in an air museum in AZ or CA, why didn't they say so. And, please, hold off impressing me with your knowledge of the various shades of O.D. Blue is blue and olive drab Is olive drab; forget the infinite number of codes laid out by Pentagon.

Re: Dragon P51D Mustangs

OD has about a hundred different shades depending in mixture/humidity etc.. It is a fact that with so many planes on an assembly line, the 1st planes out were a different shade of green than the last ones and almost no two were alike...
I just chuckle to myself when someone says "that isn't the correct shade of OD"..

Re: Dragon P51D Mustangs

But there was a standard for WWII olive drab. And we have to start someplace. "Dark Olive Drab 41" was the color for 99% of WWII. It was a color standard. And the variances were relatively small.

I always chuckle to myself when someone says "Olive drab was anything" or "olive drab was olive drab" The research that has been done in the last ten years proves that is wrong. And I am going by research that many respected people have done.........not my opinions.

Re: Dragon P51D Mustangs

I don't remember anything about nothing. I don't know anything about an old forum or anything like that at all. I never heard of any girl named Olive Drab before in my life, and I never touched her. Just leave me alone....
