Re: Dragon Wings USAF C-5 Galaxy 1/400

Yes it was off center and the doors were way too thick so I cut and shaved 'em down much thinner. Then I took a file to the nosegear bay so the wheels fit up closer (and adjusted nosewheel)...I can take some pics if you want to see.

Sounds like your model arrived with the nose gear steering broke...good job getting it fixed!

Re: Dragon Wings USAF C-5 Galaxy 1/400

I also have one.

I removed the gear and scratch-built hydraulic lines, sensors and lights in the wheel wells, sanded the main tires to reflect proper inflation pressure, hand-painted the proper stencils on wings and fuse, subtly weathered the whole model to give it that workmanlike appearance, carved out a cockpit and used my computer to create delicate cocpit instrument decals, drilled tiny channels to insert fiber optics for landing lights, and cut out tiny access panels to replicate a bird being serviced on the ground by tiny hand-carved crewmen.

I would post some pics but I can't seem to locate the model. I think the box is misplaced somewhere in the attic.

For a second there I almost took you seriously OC, until your subtle use of sarcasm became apparent

I did the same with one of my Draggin' 1/400 Constellations, even crafted real working Wright R3350 radials, but someone started it up and it flew away...

Nice.

Of course, someone with real talent would have done what I did. I scratch-built the R-3350-DA3 Turbo Compound supercharged 3,250 hp version for max performance in order to impress the celebrity passengers I handmade and inserted in the wood-panelled passenger cabin I crafted.

yes, but did you model your mini audio-animatronic flight crew members standing at the door saying "bub-bye....bub-bye.....bub-bye" ?.......hmmmmm?.

Nah, I modelled mine joining the "mile high club." I guess that makes them audio-erotic. The scale airport diorama I made, with working airport director, grounded the plane after that little incident.

Re: Dragon Wings USAF C-5 Galaxy 1/400

I finally located a Dragon C-5 in stock at an online retailer (60th AW, Travis AFB -- which is great as that's relatively close and I've seen these guys buzzing about up there from time to time) and it arrived today -- it is a great, great model.

It is amazing to put it next to a 1/400 Herc, and Globemaster and see how truly massive this beast is. Very cool!

Congratulations on finding one PappyB, the C-5 Galaxy is definitely one of Dragon's finest pieces of diecast .

Re: Dragon Wings USAF C-5 Galaxy 1/400

I'm still looking for my first one, which I'd prefer to get in grey. The Westover model is on eBay right now, for $72 (!!!). I guess I'll keep looking.
