changing markings

I was just wondering if any one had an tips for changing just the personal markings on an aircraft. I am doing a couple of Franklin mint aiplanes, and the base colors are fine, I just wish to change the aircraft markings. Thanks in advance.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Re: changing markings

I don't know about franklin mint planes, but I've done it on an ixo p-40 and a corgi hurricane. The ixo was easy. The paint was thick enough so removing the old markings (tampo prints) by using nail polish remover was a piece of cake. When I tried to do the same with a corgi ceylon hurricane I found out that corgi's paint is much thinner.....so not only did I remove the markings....but the paint as well (and I really tried to be very careful)...so now I have to repaint it...
I had a lot of projects in my mind but now I'll only consider a conversion when the plane is really cheap and I don't mind screwing it up (of course it would be different if I had the skills of no4mkit or hworth18).

Re: changing markings

Thanks man. I am thinking of trying one. I am thinking of making a Marine's Dream Corsair out of the Big hog Franklin Mint version.

Re: changing markings

Well I changed a Jolly roger Corsair into Marine's Dream the other day. I tried to make one similar to the warbird that flies in these markings today. The markings on the warbird are not 100% correct, but I like it, and tried this out. I will post some pics in the morning.

Re: changing markings

Here are soem pics of my two Corsairs from the Franklin Mint. I changed the markings slightly on the Boyington one, by adding his name below the cockpit, like the one in the press photos. As for Marine's Dream, I have the Corgi one which is correct, but I also wanted to make one like the warbird. The number on the side of the warbird is 19, which is not correct, but it looks good. I will be honest by leaving the 29 on the fuselage it was just easier. Either way not 100% accurate, but I like it.

Re: changing markings

Looks good there. I bet there are some 19's in white navy markings somewhere either from superscale or aeromaster/eagle strike....but like you said, they look good even with the 29 on there. nice work! what p-40 markings are you going to do?

Re: changing markings

I am going to change over a Franklin Mint P-40 into "Holdin' My Own". It shouldn't be too hard.

Re: changing markings

Well here it is. I change the Franklin Mint P-40 "Damn it" into "Holdin' My Own". Now just to let everyone know, once again I used the warbird as the basis for the conversion. THat is why it has a glossy scheme on it. I changed the shades of camo on it, to be a little more accurate. The original paint job on this P-40 was pretty rough. I am not sure if it was just the one I got or not. Let me know what you think.
