Re: Dragon BF-109E Joins The Condor Legion

Fantastic choice for a repaint! I wish one of the major companies would consider some of the Spanish Civil War aircraft liveries.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

Re: Dragon BF-109E Joins The Condor Legion

Nice work Epapazian! I agree with Cruver, Corgi or Dragon should have done this scheme. In fact if Dragon would fix the wing dihedral they could get a lot more mileage out of their Emil casting. A Swiss one would be high on my list too.

Yeah, this is a paint scheme that deserves attention from manufacturers.

Nice work again Epapapzian. Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to see the finished product!

Re: Dragon BF-109E Joins The Condor Legion

Thanks, guys.

This one is a real bitch to work on. The canopy frames were painted on incorrectly on one side and it doesn't fit properly. Similar problem with the main wheels are a real pain. Also, as has been mentioned, the dihedral on the wings is off and the fuselage shape seems too deep, with the canopy sitting too high above the wings. The wing canons and that stubby antenna are not the best---one gun came bent out of shape. Worst of all, the light gray scheme accentuates all of the model's problems when photographed under bright lights.I'll post another picture of this work in progress shortly, then give it a rest for a while.

Re: Dragon BF-109E Joins The Condor Legion

Epapazian, I hope you don´t mind if I add some historical background here.

What I found so far :
1.Messerschmitt Bf 109 E-3, flown by Lt.Werner Ursinus of 2.J/88, spring 1939.
The name " Bärchen " ( Teddy Bear ) was painted below the cockpit of his aircraft.Ursinus means Teddy Bear in Latin, hence the connection.
Ursinus did not claim any victories with 2.J/88 in Spain but later went on to serve with JG 53 in France, the Battle of Britain and Russia.

2. On his return to Germany, Ursinus led 3./JG53 until the end of August 1941 when he took over the Ergänzungsstaffel of JG 53.He survived the war as an instructor.

Thanks for the information, derhamburgerjung. I got the decals from an Amodel kit, which, by the way, has decals for a Romanian, Swiss, Yugoslavian, Luftwaffe and even French and Japanese schemes as well as the Condor Legion. They didn't provide any background information on the specific pilot, however, so your contribution is most welcome.
