What's interesting about these repaints are the flaws that are revealed by the camera when you take a close up picture. In your hands, the model looks OK, but not to the camera, especially under the bright lights. Almost without exception, I feel obliged to go back several times and do a bit of sanding or some retouching, then take another picture---only to find that another bump or slip of the brush needs correcting. This is especially true with IXO models, which often have assembly issues, bits of excess metal that weren't sanded off when the parts came out of the mold and awful add-ons---especially the spinners and props. I don't mind, really, because, thanks to the camera's unbiased eye, the end result of my retouching projects are better models. In this case, I was able to correct the canopy, which has an extra rear side frame on each side that shouldn't be there. So I'm pleased with the result, even though I would have done a lot better were I redoing a higher quality Corgi or Dragon model. |
