Gaincorp PLAAF Su-27UBK gear up conversion

A couple of pics and a movie with snapshots summarizing what a pain in the arse it is to convert these to a gear-up config...

Cool video. Thanks for showing us that. I like seeing how these are put together.

What HM stand are you using?

The one from HM's 1/48 Spitfire. I just borrowed it for the pics. It's not stable enough for long-term display. I'm going to make a custom base for it this weekend.

Thumbs up Re: Gaincorp PLAAF Su-27UBK gear up conversion

You've made a great job of this but i'm afraid I don't have the patience or eyesight for such a conversion!

The video was most revealing & a huge help for anyone considering this worthwhile conversion

Take it out and play with it

Thanks! The video doesn't show the bulk of the work, which was cutting carving, filing and sanding the doors to fit and then filling the gaps with two-part epoxy putty (Magic Sculpt). Taking the plane apart, removing the doors & gear, and reassembling took only an hour. Getting the doors to fit and filling in gaps took several hours over the course of three days.

Re: Gaincorp PLAAF Su-27UBK gear up conversion

Here are some pics of the stand that I made for my gear-up Gaincorp Su-27UBK...

To fit the bird on the stand, I had to remove the rear centerline missle, open the stand hole plugs on the bottom of the fuselage, and notch out the the stand for the rear centerline missle pylon.

Re: Gaincorp PLAAF Su-27UBK gear up conversion

Very nice, that takes alot of patience and skill. I still think the aircraft looks better with gear down.

Re: Gaincorp PLAAF Su-27UBK gear up conversion

Neat way to display this model. Missile launch is a pretty cool touch.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.
