Hobbymaster P-39 "Old Crow" Repaint

Here's the latest repaint, completed by my dad, based on Hobbymaster's P-39Q "Devastating Devil." He made the decals and changed the exhaust to the correct number of openings using the Minicraft 1/72 P-39 kit. As we've discussed numerous times on the forum, there have been many variations on the markings for this plane. According to Mr. Anderson's son, the squadron badge is blue. My dad lightened the blue in the badge based on a black and white photograph found in Mr. Anderson's book "To Fly and Fight." If the badge is blue it is probably a very light, almost baby blue. Some drawings show the entire tail red, some just the rudder, and others show no red at all. We decided to go with the red rudder to match Anderson's P-51 (and our repainted Dragon Old Crow) as well as a P-39 model built by Merle Olmstead, the 357th's official historian, found on Anderson's website. I figure if he has just the rudder red, well, he would know! Enjoy...

Note: I didn't realize the flash was off on the last few photos until it was too late...and I'm too lazy to redo the pictures right now. And yes, I know the antennae are missing on both models

Tundra, tell dad that is absolutely excellent! HM is nuts if they don't do this one, and I hope they do because I have enough repaints to do as it is!

So how did he manage the white "OLD CROW" lettering? I make my own decals too, but without a special printer you can't print white, unless you print the colored background on white decal sheet. There's complications with that though...

P-39 repaint looks great. Sounds like you did quite a bit of research.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

Nice work Tundra! Really like the Old Crow. Wish Dragon would get on the ball. Lots of missed opportunities as crazy as we all are for D repaints.
