This interesting camouflage scheme has always been high on my list as a collector. Unlike most of his Luftwaffe contemporaries, the ill-fated ace, Werner Molders, flew a BF-109E in the Spring of 1940 which was painted in RLM 02 ( a light gray/green ) over its upper surfaces with green blotches on the wings and tailplanes. This resulted in a very effective air superiority motif. So when I heard that Corgi was putting this particular plane out I was pleased------until I learned that it was part of the on- the- cheap Warbird line. That meant that there was no pilot figure, no swastika or Pik A logo, no wheels down option, and other cost saving omissions.
Anyway, the model finally arrived and I have just finished putting it in shape for display. Werner is in the cockpit---minus his legs--- and the plane now sports the Pik A emblem, a small swastika, red no-walk lines, plus various weathering refinements, navigation lights, etc. Here's how it looks: |
