Waltz's Warthogs

So I have been doing some work to a few of my A-10 models the last few weeks when I've had some time....and now they are finished. Here's the first of them, I'll post the others tomorrow nite.

This one was the first I worked on, and really didn't do too much....I used the Franklin Mint PA ANG Let's Roll A-10, and just converted it to a different plane number and loaded it up how it looked coming home from deployment from Iraq. That included a litening targeting pod, centerline fuel tank, and a MXU-648 travel pod. Both pods are not exact, I used a napalm tank out of a 1/48th Monogram kit and just cut the fins off, and the targeting pod is a dash 14 not dash 28 litening pod....however, all things considered, it looks the part and I'm happy with it. Another cool thing with this is that I am displaying it with a flag and certificate that one of my friends gave me from the deployment. The flag was flown on a mission, which during that particular mission, the A-10 took out a weapons cache! So here's a few pics.....of the model, the aircraft coming home, and the certificate and flag.

Re: Waltz's Warthogs

Interesting post Waltz, & a very nice display/layout on the thread (regarding the pic's & their link !)

The 'F.M.' A.10 that you've used is going cheap at the minute (for £ 20 over here).

You've done a nice job on the tail-markings - (they are the (only) weak-link on 'F.M.'s model, due to the 'silvering' effect).

Love the top-shot of the 'hog in front of the Cert' & the Flag inside the cabinet.

Re: Waltz's Warthogs

Nice job Waltz! How'z about making me 110 Fighter Wing (Michigan ANG) based out of Battle Creek? Been reading a great article about the 332nd Air Expeditionary Wing/172nd Expeditionary FS in OIF from Flight Journal Special Issue: Modern Air Power (Winter 2006). Cool article with good pictures including one of a 110 FW A-10 that had landed with it's right engine blown to bits by a SAM. Being a kid from Michigan, I really love the Battle Creek Hawgs! So how'z about it Waltz?

Re: Waltz's Warthogs

Thanks guys. Ok, here's #2. I took another Franklin Mint A-10, this time a Spangdahlem Balkans war one, and did it up as a 47th FS Barksdale A-10s, with, IMHO, the best A-10 paint scheme out there today. I put on a travel pod, litening pod, maverick and an ACMI pod on the sidewinder rail. Here's a few pics of the model and then one that recently visited us here at Willow Grove.

First I need one for my collection!! I actually just picked up some 1/72nd decals for one....was thinking about doing it out of the recent Hobbymaster spangdahlem release, as they deployed together.......wait till I show you what I did with one of the Hobby Master A-10s tomorrow!

Great job Waltz! I'll check first thing tomorrow for the HM Warthog. I love the Hawg and hope it stays in service for a long, long time!

Re: Waltz's Warthogs

Kind of got tied up with some things and well....better late than never. Here's my third conversion. I took a Hobby Master Flying Tigers A-10 and made it into a PA ANG 103rd FS A-10. This took a lot of time and patience to convert, and overall I am pretty happy with it. I changed all the weapons to the standard load out I see everyday here, which includes 1 sidewinder, Rocket pod, Litening Pod, Maverick and TERs for BDUs. All of the weapons and the 5th and 7th pylons I added or worked on to upgrade. Now I have a 1/72nd A-10 of my dreams!!!
