IXO Beau nightfighter

After the laughs subsided when IXO released their rocket armed Beaufighter with a nightfighter ariel in the nose, I knew I couldn't resist the obvious opportunity. With the long BOB 4 plane project completed at long last (and the ensuing rest from it!) I finally got down to work.
Just a few modifications were in order. The tail planes had to be reset to remove the dihedral, the dorsal gun blister was replaced with a Squadron vacuform teardrop bubble, and some prop spinners were fashioned from sheet styrene using the crude but effective (after about 60 odd attempts! ) heat and smash method. Oh, and I stole a pilot from somewhere.... he was in the spares box.
After a spray of black and the gun patches and lights were painted on it was decal time. Let me just say, if you haven't tried FCM decals yet, dont. The concept is a good one, where the decal transfer is under a top layer that peels away once dry leaving a very thin transfer on the model that looks painted on. In practice though, the top layer pulled parts of and sometimes the whole transfer off with it! I either got a bad sheet or the designer is one evil man. Resisting the urge to chuck the damned thing against the wall, I ended up masking the squadron code letters off and hand painting the areas that had been removed. At least the national insignia were not from FCM!
The smaller serial number transfers were the really maddening part because they're completely gone and I have nothing to replace them with right now. I'm a little reluctant to show pics of an incomplete model, so I tried to hide the missing decals in most of the following photo's...

Here's new and old...

And a small gathering of nightfighters...

And finally, a really poor picture of the allied nightfighter shelf....

Re: IXO Beau nightfighter

From one repainter to another, that's a terrific job! By the way, Tally Ho puts out a 1:72nd scale sheet with red RAF serial numbers and letters (S 72004 ) which I've used several times. The numbers/letters might be slightly thin but I think they're the right height. I got my sheet at Squadron. Again, great redo.

Re: IXO Beau nightfighter

Excellent job (once again) No.4 = superb !!!!!!!!!

Honestly mate, I wouldn't worry about the missing serial-No. on Cunningham's Beaufighter !!!!!!!

Most folks probably wouldn't even know it's missing.

Shame ya didn't do Gibson's Beaufighter (29 Sqdn).

One of his German victims (bought down by Gibson's Beaufighter) is buried in a local-churchyard near to here (about 4 miles away at Gt.Bircham), alongside numerous other He.111/Ju.88/He.115 aircrew who are 'buried' opposite Lancaster, Hampden, Hudson, Anson aircrew in a very secluded spot.

I've yet to pick up an IXO Beaufighter, but I will when the chance arises.

Re: IXO Beau nightfighter

Have a question about the IXO Beaufighter. Does it come with rockets or maybe a torpedo?
