| Best Decal Remover So I'm thinking of doing a few customs, I want to redo a FM A-10 and possibly a HM A-10. Biggest thing is getting the decals off. Now I know everyone recommends MicroSol, but I just can't get it to work. I tried some on the FM A-10.....several attempts....and nothing. I ended up using some of these nail polish remover pads my wife gave me, but they ended up being a little too strong. Nothing I can't fix up, but it's annoying. So what does everyone use? I was going back through the threads, and nothing really as a topic on this. Anyone? | |||||||||||||

| Re: Best Decal Remover After trying nail polish remover and Microsol, I found that on most models I wish to redo, a delicate fine sanding gives the best prepping results. While Corgi insignias, lettering, etc tend to be fairly thick and need more work in this regard, those on other manufacturers' models are often so thin that only minor sanding---and in some cases, no sanding---is required. Of course I am usually repainting that whole section of the plane where the insignias and lettering appear, not merely trying to put on new insignias, letters, etc. in the same locations. In the latter case, it's obviously best to remove the insignias, letters, etc, completely, rather than just sanding down the rough edges as I usually do---without compromising the underlying paint job. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Best Decal Remover My father used good ole acetone for the various repaints and conversions I've posted on here. Though the less acetone used, the better the result. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Best Decal Remover I'm thinking of taking the dragon art off the left side of my FM Lib -- quite a project... I'd like to know what could help remove the decal without harming the paint/finish underneath? | |||||||||||||

| Re: Best Decal Remover
Is it indeed a decal? Nail polish remover always worked for me on plastic. I used the kind that has no odour.

| Re: Best Decal Remover
Yes, I think it is -- one of the best ones I've seen though particularly at this scale, though. It's quite hard to tell -- but there is that telltale clear border around the decal...

| Re: Best Decal Remover I wonder whether one of those products for removing the residue of stickers or the ones used to remove gum would work? A couple of product names are Goo Gone Sticker Lifter and Un Do. | |||||||||||||
