| Halifax MkIIB Turret modification.. Finally received my AA37201 Halifax and decided to do something about the height of the turret which did look a little high to me.. After doing the mod, I can strongly suggest that this modification is not for the faint of heart as the Halifax is not as easy of a model as it appears.. I only finished it as I had already gone the distance and it had to be completed.. The upper pic is before, and the lower afterwards.. I do think it looks much better now.. ![]() | |||||||||||||

| Re: Halifax MkIIB Turret modification.. Yes -- nice job indeed! So I'm guessing no pics were taken during the process? (And by the way, I wonder where those Messier landing gear replacements Corgi promised us are? That's the easiest modification to make!) JPN | |||||||||||||

| Re: Halifax MkIIB Turret modification..
Sorry, No pics of the process (didn't think about it until after the project was done) but it wasn't as easy as the Wellington was that is for sure.. The hardest part was getting the screw plugs out of the fuselage, which aren't just shallow plugs, they are very deep now and a real bugger to get out without tearing them up.. After that, the fuselage doesn't come apart easily.. It actually snaps together, so when you pull it apart, it "pops" apart sending pieces flying which can be a problem if you aren't prepared for it..

(LOL) OK Harry, truth be told, I thought I'd have a run at mine this morning. ( ) Foolish boy. Seriously NOT advised! After I had given in and cut my losses, I was 'patching up' the bottom rear 'plug cap' (the only one I got off) and wondering how did you do this and where in blazes are those screws(??) OK -- so they are really buried in there, eh? I didn't even get mine apart. I really appreciate your heads-up on this. Really! Mine will remain 2mm higher than normal. (Now where are those replacement Messier landing gear, Corg?)JPN

| Re: Halifax MkIIB Turret modification.. I've a sneaking suspicion that Corgi put you up to this Harry!! Because so many of us are 'cack handed' and I include myself in this a serious amount of Halifax are going to get destroyed doing this fix. Ergo replacement aircraft needed Great bit of work ![]() | |||||||||||||

Yep, I FULLY agree........ A SERIOUSLY good bit of work there, that FINALLY makes the 'Brussel-Sprout' look realistic, instead of emulating the 'Empire-State' building ! A fantastic-job, guaranteed to make all other knowledgable Halifax enthusiasts jealous ! I wouldn't have the foolhardy-nerve to attempt this 'fix' - even though you've made the end result look superb. As Shamrock says, they'll be some broken hearts (as well as Corgi H.P.57's). BTW 'H'......... I'm wondering now you have the experience ![]()

| Re: Halifax MkIIB Turret modification..
Both turrets are installed the same way so modifying the other version shouldn't be much different.. The whole kink in the deal is the rubber screw plugs which remind me of the end of a No.2 pencil eraser shoved down that little hole.. The screw, if you can get to it, is at the bottom of all that mess.. Needless to say, I didn't get the plugs out without buggering up a few, but luckily, I was able to clean them up and get them reinstalled without looking too bad.. Here is what I found: The lower fuselage is in three sections: Foward section, Bombay section and Tail section.. The forward and tail sections are each held in with 2 screws, the bombay has 1 screw, but the pieces interlock to form one piece.. Once you get the three screws out (I didn't remove the forward section) the pieces have to be pulled apart and if you are careful, you won't lose parts when the pieces unsnap and go flying.. The bombay is 2 pieces and the tail is 1.. The turret just sits in a metal recess and held in by 1 screw in the bottom. Once you remove the turret screw, the turret just falls out of the top of the fuselage.. I actually disassembled the turret, sanded down the clear plastic part where it meets the base and then also sanded some off the base then reglued the parts together.. It was tough and as I said previously, not recommended for beginners or the faint of heart..

| Geez -- that sounds like a regular Chinese puzzle. I'm not so sure I want to tackle that one anymore. Anytime I consider hauling out te Dremel to work on a diecast model -- well -- maybe I should reconsider the whole thing. (Although -- I hate getting beat by a 'challenge'! Hmmmmmmm )JPN | |||||||||||||
