Re: 1/72 Invasion Stripes

I haven't ever seen Invasion Striping in 1/72, only 1/48, but you might try squadron.com

Re: 1/72 Invasion Stripes

Microscale/Superscale do 'em, so 'did' Aeromaster........

Different sizes, dependant on whether you're making a P.51 or a B.26 ? (for example)

to be truthful it ALWAYS looks better if you use masking-tape & 'spray' them on..... (for example, paint WHOLE area covered by bands White, then, when dry, mask-off & spray Black stripes after........

But be warned......even the aftermarket decal manufacturers explain (on their instruction-sheets) that they are 'tailor-made' to suit certain kits....... i.e. the Microscale/Superscale 1/48th 'Inv-Stripes' for a P.51 are 'made' to fit the Hasegawa kit (MAYBE not the Tamiya one)....& so it goes = good luck either way

BTW, Hannant's are the U.K.'s biggest suppliers of kits & aftermarket decals (a specialist), so I would browse their website & phone 'em for details if I were you !!!!!!

Yep, painting them yourself is probably the best way to go. Not sure that anyone does them in 1/72nd, did not turn much up while looking through my Squadron catalogue.

Paint looks better. Remember to use flat colors.

Were the stripes masked off in real life? How were they applied - by brush or spray gun?

Both.. On transports and generic piloted planes they were hastily painted with whatever they could find, but on fighters, most of the time, they were carefully painted by the ground crews who cared what the plane looked like..

Re: 1/72 Invasion Stripes

Hey Duncan

You can buy black and white decal sheets ( A4) and cut to size , seen some on evil bay .. but i usually mask and brush paint .There are decals sheets with plain black and plain white stripes of different sizes but the are really a waste of money as you will find you only use 2 or 3 different sizes

Re: 1/72 Invasion Stripes

Invasion stripes were applied the night before the invasion and they were not neat. Now after the invasion, fighter pilots had the stripes touched up to be neat, and then eventually lost them all together.
