I wanted to take a minute and thank Mr.1250Ships for his recent help. To make a long story short, my great-grandfather served onboard the USS
Ellis during WWII. I asked Mr.1250 if anybody made a good model, either in diecast or in plastic. He not only gave me numerous examples to choose from, but he also posted pictures of each ship. I was then able to find both versions of the ship as it looked during its service life. I then took a shadow box from Hobby Lobby, made some mounting pieces out of spruce, painted flat black, and added a nice nameplate. The dates represent the commision and decommision dates for the
Ellis.
This will be a Christmas present for my grandfather since it was his father that served on the
Ellis. My dad made hull numbers for the ships, which you can't really see in the picture but are legible in person. That was a job in itself considering the small size.
Thanks again Mr.1250, for your assistance and time. He's just one of the many great members we have on this forum.
