My GMP P-51D "Hurry Home Honey"

A B-17 crew was under attack after they had left formation due to battle damage. They were fighting to stay alive, and trying to limp home when they were attacked by a couple of ME--109's. Before they knew it, a lone P-51 attacked the ME's downing one, and scaring off the other. When the B-17 returned to it's base, and the pilot told this stoy in debriefing he was asked if he knew who the pilot might be. He said, "I don't know who he was, or what group it was, but it said "Hurry Home honey on the nose." THis P-51's was always one of my favorites, and I really wanted this one for a while in diecast. SO I made my own. Now I already own an example of all of the GMP's so when you see me modifying these, they are not my only ones. I pick up ones to modify for cheap when I can. There are many of you here that have much more talent then I do, but I enjoy myself, so go gentle on me.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Nice job! Did you modify a "Missouri Armada?"

Re: My GMP P-51D "Hurry Home Honey"

It was a MA that I modified. It needed the least amount of work. The decals are not exact 1/35, as I made them on my computer. First try at that. I pretty much eyeballed the decal sizes based on a 1/48th scale profile and set I have for the same airplane.

I am not sure I would call it a success yet, as I wen tthrough like 4 sheets of decal paper until I figured out how to get it right.

Looks great, MD! (of course, I was relatively satisfied with the paintjob I did on a couple of WW I birds I built, so I CAN'T be too discriminating!)

Nice job Stang. How did you repaint the olive drab to silver?

Re: My GMP P-51D "Hurry Home Honey"

Great job MD, looks real nice!
I've often thought about sending one of my GMP's off to have professionally weathered but then I think that maybe I would be ruining a real collectible since their out of the plane making business.
