Trash That Flash

I'm a pretty big fan of Century Wings but even they can use a little help...In this case I'm talking about the metal flash that's left in the negative areas of the gear struts. The removal of it was a simple process using micro drill bits in a pin vise, a mini file and an X-Acto blade.

I simply drilled a bunch of holes in all the negative areas and then cleaned them up with a small file and an X-Acto blade..I think the results are worth the small effort, and doing this in no way compromises the structural integrity of the strut.

Excellent work Skunky !

(And JP has done some serious - perhaps irreparable - damage to your reputation for frivolity ... shame on him .)

Re: Trash That Flash

Nice job, Skunky, looks 10 times better.

BTW, regarding the previous discussion of you wearing a Rolex....with your new persona, you definitely could NOT pull it off!

Re: Trash That Flash

Isn't it amazing how much a simple thing adds to the realism of a model? Thanks for sharing, Skunky. Awesome job. I can't wait to try it on my Tomcats. My FOV Black Knights especially needs it.

Re: Trash That Flash

This work, though admirable, more than likely voids the Grumman warranty.

Nice job Skunky!

Oh, and I see you're back to dudes with bad hats again... for icons...

Re: Trash That Flash

Nice! I'm sending all of my CW F-14's to Skunky for the makeover. Please apply a tomato juice wash, to kill the smell, before you send them back!

BTW, Benny Hill was awesome.

Re: Trash That Flash

Excellent tip Skunky. I am not into F-14s yet, but will look for other models to try it on.

Thanks.

Re: Trash That Flash

Five broken drill bits, 2 broken files, 2 X-acto blades, a half a bottle of Ibuprofen for my aching fingers, and about 4 to 6 hours later (I lost track of time), I finally trashed the flash on the gear to Grim Reapers. I guess I am not as skilled as Skunky. He made it look eeeaaasssyyy. Yeah, if they were plastic!

Anyway, I think I got the hang of it. I looked again at the size of Skunky's drill bit holes... his bit/bits must have been bigger than mine. I am going to my hobby shop for bigger drill bits for my next CW Tomcat trashy flashy job.

Hey Skunky... did you do any touch up paint? Yours looks outstanding. Mine definately needs touch up paint. But what a difference. Now... why oh why didn't CW mold voids where voids should be? Such an excellent casting, made a bit toy-like with the flash.

Give it a try, but don't way I didn't warn you!
